When Gerrard is deployed for England as he is for Liverpool, which is no responsibilities at all other than hurting the opposition, then you will see the best of him. If that stops him from being world class then so be it but only then will we see the best of him.
How exacting do you want to be...
At least Taylor built up to that wonderful moment. Nigel Clough wasn't it.
The shame is that the system could work, just not with those players and certainly not first time up in ( probably ) our most difficult away game. It smacked of him chasing Saturday's dropped points.
Whatever one's view on the relative merits of each player this charade has made McClaren's regime ( already ) look vacuous and far more concerned with spin than substance. I really cannot see how anyone can argue that Beckham is not worthy of a squad place. The starting 11 is a different...
Johnson would appear to be the one most likely to offer something like Owen's movement AND goal threat. I do like Crouch but he doesn't stretch teams enough for Rooney.
In McClaren's defence I'm sure Johnson would have featured in these two games.
EDIT. WTF is Max Clifford doing talking about...
It is a very good team, but what are the chances of that team ever taking the field.
The loss of Owen is a huge factor in Rooney's lack of spark for England.
It's not Ward, it's WARD AND MELLOR.
No all time team should be without Lawrenson either, it's the law whether you saw him or not.
Surprised not to see one mention of Paul Clark either, ROCK.
