I think most people know about this bloke by now but Mr Galloway is trying to save his life.

From the BBC

Also, it does make me rather dubious of the Moslem religion. How come a civil court finds the man innocent but a religious court can overturn that decision ? Just as well Christians can't do that as I can think of some I've met who have some pretty extreme views on the same notion.

Not Luton! Thank God
The strangest thing is that if he had shot him in say an armed robbery the court couldn't have intervened but because it was "highway robbery" they could.

Sharia hanging isn't a nice way to go either.

I recently traveled in a taxi driven by a Pakistani in Abu Dhabi. I was sitting in the back with my other half but her best friend (a little ironically a gay Filipino) was sitting in the front beside the driver. I admit didn't see it but according to both her and him the driver exposed himself to the gay guy. I was not unreasonably rather shocked at this but they both told me that this sort of thing is not that uncommon.

That's why I feel the bloke facing the death sentence is having a very raw deal.

P.S. Apologies to all those who only want football threads on NSC.

Apparently President Musharraf can't intervene because he can't get in the way of due process and the Pakistani rule of law.

Strange then, that this tiny oversight didn't stop his military junta from seizing power and not even giving power back to the people when he promised to do so within a year.

Several of the major Christian denominations have their own legal systems, including the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church. The authority of the Church of England courts is even written into English civil law.

This is a shocking case, and Musharraf is basically prepared to sacrifice this lad, and to hell with world opinion, to avoid confrontation with the religious authorities. It needs to be sorted, and hopefully pressure will be brought to bear.

I disagree with your original statement, however - George Galloway IS always a prat.

Maybe so but its been several centuries since Christian Law has got somebody executed.

Sorry but the whole thing is utterly barbaric and is certainly 'Cruel and Unusual' as the Americans say. Doesn't really do the Muslem religion any favours does it ?
