Such a shame, he was a genuinely nice man, or at least from what we saw of him. A mate of mine did exactly the same thing 3 weeks ago in exactly the same way, we all had no idea that this was coming, private people need to be encouraged to be not so private. RIP Gary, RIP Robin.

Thanks for that! Don't think thats the Electric Ballroom or Music Machine though but certainly the white shirt and strides were the same. In fact I usually wore plastic versions of those at most of the gigs I went to back then, I was cool and a bit smelly...

I remember XTC making a definitely worthy cover of this too, no lead guitar at all, just punchy bass, affected stuttery vocals and a manic swirl of organ .

Agree with all of that, I like the way you described "Bono's infectious sense of sheer wonderment", I only saw them when they were at the 'wonderment' stage with them being fairly new to performing in London. It was on a support slot (I think) to Echo & the Bunnymen, I think it was Electric...
