It turns out that his Strasbourg showreel presents the opposite to this. An incredibly tenacious young player adept at getting back in position, effective in tackle after tackle and full of tireless running.

The rumours Chelsea want him are clearly justified. He had a stonking 2nd half of the season where he knuckled down and performed admirably by all accounts.

I just hope the club hasn't written him off as quickly as you clearly have!

I watched it thinking he's desperately out of position constantly and has to slide tackle to recover. Not great defending if you ask me and would get even more exposed in the prem.

Just can't agree.

I'm pretty confident Barco will be considered one of the best left backs in world football in a few years .... though he'll always be well behind Nuno Mendes who I reckon will go on to be Maldini / Lahm good

In one of Di Zerbi's first press conferences. He spoke of his amazement that Potter had not been playing Mitoma.
Mitoma joined our squad in the 22-23 pre-season. Potter managed the first six premier league games that season, Mitoma was on the bench for all six, and came on in four of them, with the exceptions of the first, away at United and last, 5-2 up on Leicester. Leandro Trossard and Solly March were our starting wingers.

RDZ took over and named Mitoma on the bench for his first five games, bringing him on in three of them, and choosing to start with Leandro Trossard and Solly March in all five. He gave Mitoma his starting debut in his sixth game in charge, a very pleasing 4-1 win over Chelsea. He started the next game before being put back on the bench for the last two games before the world cup and the first game after, and then Trossard threw a wobbly and Mitoma was an ever-present from then on.

The same Potter that had Mitoma for six PL games, and got the club up to fourth in the table? The same Potter that played Mitoma in most of those six PL games, while also starting him in the League Cup by way of acclimatising a player to the rigours of the PL?

Yeah, but Potter left us six games into the season, "gutting" the club, and bringing in what remains one of the largest managerial packages of c£25m for the club. This clear out opened up the possibility of RDZ joining alongside his merry band of coaching staff.

And, as a result of that, let's neglect what Potter achieved in taking the club forward and, instead, make dubious claims about his tenure.

Yes but ghat doesn't fit some posters' anti-Potter agenda. We'll all have to eventually accept that de Zerbi actually came in and rescued the club from disaster at the eleventh hour!
And although we were fourth when he walked out, there is absolutely no chance we’d have made Europe if RDZ hadn’t come in

Can't see it myself, he's shown glimpses of quality but not in a defensive sense. I would say Kerkez, Ait-nouri and udogie are all significantly ahead of him in their development and all round game

Agreed but the rewriting of history, as highlighted on this thread, in an anti Potter agenda winds me up
I get that, but there is also a fair degree of it on RdZ threads as well…

They were both excellent for us….

I didn’t enjoy some of Potters, see Bournemouth away, and I didn’t enjoy some of RdZs, see Bournemouth away (again)….. few home wins under Potter for a spell, shocking performances under RdZ for the last few months…..

Well yes. All of those are older than him of course, so would be ahead in their development

Perhaps I should have emphasised the word significantly. Those were just some examples of other young left backs that are currently better than him, therefore evidence that he will struggle to be "one of the best left back in the world" in future

So what's your thoughts on Pervis then?

I thought this was his weakest season with us. Not bad, but didn't hit the heights and maybe never got himself completely fit towards the end

I also think full backs are going to get caught upfield under Hurzeler. It's the manager's decision and we get the benefit from it, but I do remember watching Pervis puffing to get back a few times.

If we were offered around £40m and we took it, is that a good deal?

There is, and always will be, an "anti-Potter" agenda.

He screwed us over not long into the start of a new season because the ££££££££££££££££££££££m from Chelsea got the better of a greedy man. Not only did he walk out, he took almost the entirety of the coaching staff with him. And how we all laughed (except one weirdo) when it all went tits up.

So we should just forgive and forget? Nah.

I saw Potter in Hove Waitrose a few weeks ago. Unfortunately my brain couldn't gear change from "do I want mushrooms for tonight" to "launch a tirade of abuse" fast enough and the moment went

It's funny how the Potter haters miss the fact that he did us a huge favour in making a vacancy for the wonderful RDZ, who could do no wrong (and only left us a few places lower than when he took over!)

Yes, it was annoying he left the way he did, but that doesn't change the fact that he left us in a very good place.

It’s quite amazing that people still bring up the No Dickhead Policy when we’ve had numerous players leave on bad terms & 5(?) players in court for driving like complete bellends in the Premier League Era.

If the NDP exists then it’s either laughably ineffective or an incredibly low bar. I’m sure the club look in to personality a bit, but unless they break in to transfer targets house and have a snoop through their diary then I’m not sure its worth two shits.
100% this. The no-dickhead policy is corporate management guff.

All it actually means is that the club don't have a tolerance for disruptive dressing room influences that could upset the rhythm of the team. If, for a random not particular example, we happened to employ a player who was arrested for allegations of sexual assault, the club would probably continue to play him as long as he stayed popular in the dressing room and it didn't affect the results on pitch.

If the club had a player who is apparently quite a nice bloke in person but had a bit of a bust up with our centre back in training, then they'd likely tell that player to stay away from the squad until the matter is resolved one way or another.

Ultimately, you're only a dickhead if you put potential success on the pitch and the profit margin into jeopardy.

Was it not simply a throwaway comment made by Matty Ryan during an interview?
