[Albion] Pervis rumour. Not sure on credibility

My view, FWIW (and this isn't just about Perv) is that we can't all get excited about new players coming in and ALSO be moaning/angry/sad about others moving on. The squad is only big enough for 25, so it's one in, one out.

As I always say, players come and go and – almost exclusively – I'll remember them fondly and hope they go on to do good things at their new place. I certainly don't see a reason to start moaning about them or slagging them off if they express an opinion to leave...

Given the number of young players we have, the 25 squad size thing I don't think matters

But yeh, no reason for antipathy towards Pervis. He should be given a warm reception on his return to the Amex

OK, maybe not, but more players, more problems. There are only 11 starters and it would be difficult – almost impossible – to keep everyone happy if they all stayed put.

Quite

I was interested in Guardiola's recent comments that he wants a smaller squad as he doesn't have to keep leaving players out ... and he has more fronts to fight on.

We might find ourselves in a situation where our injury issues are less severe than they have been and we're having to leave very good players out of matchday squads

Got to be honest, i never thought i would see the day when we can leave very good players on the bench. I still celebrate the minute we are safe even if iit is 5 games from the end of the season.

Whilst true losing to many regular starters will be disruptive and after every disappointing result I don´t want to hear its a transition season again.
I also question why quite a few regulars appear to want out.

Because new players are being brought in so they possibly feel a threat to their place and think they could be a regular starter elsewhere?

I don't agree with such a high turnover of players – I said that on here the other day, I think it's a bit depressing about football – but, to quote GPott, it is what it is.

In truth the business model of Brighton and Hove Albion is set up in a way that, to an extent, every season IS a transition season. With the caveat of incremental improvements season-on-season. Broadly speaking, over the past 10 years, the targets/achievements have been: Championship survivial; Championship consolidation; promotion to PL; PL survival and now to PL consolidation. The next 'transition' is to that of a regular top-10 team.

Yes, losing regular starters CAN be disruptive, but it can also help push the team on if the players that come in to replace the departed turn out to be better – regardless of in the short- or long-term.

People need to stop taking a measured and evidence based view on the club's self evident competence and start freaking the f*** out about our clearly inevitable relegation.

We are, obviously, doomed.

Depends what the ambitions are I suppose player trading or building for some reasonable success.
We must be the only club where competition for places is a bad thing. Normally it’s designed to push players to the next level trying to keep their first team place. Either that or we sign stroppy players who think they deserve to play regardless of form.
