Just had to Google that, can’t see being allowed to drag the Mrs into either kind of establishment really

Do you have any advice on the cannabis cafes?
Last time in Leeuwarden I had half a cup cake (9eur) and it blew me into next week. Like Sonic the Hedgehog walking home, the bridges kept moving. Last I heard the Dam was cagey with foreigners. Rule here is one stay sober, one enjoy, and swap over the next night.

I've got a fantastic story but I'm not posting it on here.

Very odd man.

Previous to the incident he was well known at work for his webcam friend and her milk bottle. Subsequent to that he got his secretary pregnant and his his wife left him.

We'll just leave it there.
I do hope you're not referring to me! Not guilty me lud.

Besides, I have much more interesting anecdotes than those....

:lolol:

If beer is your thing this lovely canal side place is superb. lovely building, lovely location and great beer.

Another vote for this establishment. It also has a wide range of jenevers.
And a vote from me for the t Arensdsnest. Great bar with ever changing fantastic range of beers and Jenevers. The Zuidam 5 year Korenwijn is as good as any malt I have tasted. There is a nice cafe next door serving amazing Dutch Apple pie with cream.

Also another good place for beer is In De Wildemen about 5 minutes from Dam Square (near Inntelhotel).Big choice of draught and bottled beers.

Two other places I would definitely recommend both by Dam Square are Cafe De Dam reputedly the smallest bar in Amsterdam. Walls and ceilings are covered in football scarves, etc from around the world.Have seen a Brighton scarf there in the past.

The other is Wijnard Fockink a Jenever tasting bar – big selection of different Dutch gins and spirits to try + a few beers.Had a few good sessions in there over the years. It’s located in a side street behind the Krasnopolsky Hotel

I tend to stay in the Jordaan area where there are some brilliant ‘brown bars’ all on or close to the Prinsegracht canal

Cafe de Prins - try their Uitsmijter breakfast – slices of bread topped with a layers of Gouda cheese, ham and fried eggs

T’Smalle a lovely corner canal side bar; De Tuin a backstreet local bar great fun in the evenings and my favourite De Reiger lovely beer and food The best ribs I have ever eaten.

The Van Puffelen is a nice bar with a really good restaurant next door.

If you want to try good hearty Dutch food go to Moeders (Mothers)

Apart from the museums already mentioned the Negen Straatjes (Nine Streets) also in the Jordaan are well worth a visit – quirky shops, bars and restaurants and the Amsterdam Historical Museum is excellent.

Had a fabulous time in Amsterdam, thank you for all your suggestions. Went to Bulldog one night, saw Anne Frank House, Rijksmuseum, canal tour, decent meals and a wonderful first time visit. A few thoughts;

Incredibly clean. Incredibly safe. Unlike most major cities I didn’t feel I was being nickel-and-dimed everywhere we went. For example, audio tours included whereas most places here charge extra. McDonald’s (yes, I know) came to over €32 though for two of us! Went out to Sloten to see the windmill tour (we were the only two) which was interesting.

Don’t feel the need to return as we saw all we wanted to as tourists, but highly recommended if you’ve never been.

Public transport superb and very reasonable. Another major European city ticked off the list!

Can’t get a good cup of tea for love nor money though!

Slight downer is we both caught COVID on the flight home, so currently both isolating in bed…

Glad you had a great time. I hope you didn't take a whole box of mushroom truffles like the shop clerk tried to make me do when I was there.
Pretty ashamed to say, I pulled a whitey and was violently ill back at the hotel room. Too much too soon… think I’ll stick with beer!
