Have to say it’s quite a limiting suggestion that anyone who wasnt around 25+ years ago isn’t a brighton fan. Where do we get the next generation of deranged brighton fans from if that’s the case?
NOPE. He's staying. But we're still paying his wages, he's not allowed to attend training, he won't be playing for us and we won't receive a penny of the 50-60m we thought was on offer.
As everyone suggested, we are in the driving seat, hold all the cards and we are in a win/win situation.
the difficulty is that we don't seem to be in a position to sell only if we are confident of filling the void. From what it sounds like it seems we sell only if the price is right and the deal works well for our model.
The awkward part for us fans is that we might not be factoring in the ease...
Bit of an enigma and one off talent. Pretty irreplaceable. We’re not just filling the void positionally hence the asking price.
This is a real loss I’m afraid.
This is the most sensible and pragmatic approach. It says we’re willing if our terms are met but we won’t be dictated to. We NEED to replace Cucu and will need time to do so. Losing our POTS is one thing but losing him close to deadline day would be painful. We need to just ensure that whatever...
Pretty rubbish few weeks. First that horrible shirt now our player of the season has admitted publicly that he wants out. No signings made in that period either and we are running out of time to get a LB in that we will need.
don't disagree. If it maintains his levels then do it but that is not guaranteed. We shouldn't proactively look to do this. Pay 20-30K extra each week for 18 months to get the same transfer fee that would be offer if we didn't offer new wages is simply throwing money at something for no reason.
I did yes, but thats not my point because I don;t think we will get to that point.
Im saying the club do not need to do similar this time due to contract length. It makes no business sense.
precisely. protecting your assets. No need to do so with Cucu who has a lengthy contract and will go for the same if not more regardless of wage increase on the club.
just trying to understand the logic. He is pretty protected in terms of contract length so his overall value isn't going to shift downwards in 12-18 months. Why pay a bigger premium for the same potential outcome?
In Ben White's case I think he had 1 year left with an additional 1 year option...
