[Albion] “Don’t call it a Derby!”

Well, Sky journalists would, of course, have no conception that football existed before 1992.

    [Albion] Tonight’s tactics

Yes, Moder is really starting to look the part now and was unlucky not to score tonight. I thought Mac shaded it as Moder still gives the ball away on occasion, but midfield is an area where we have an embarrassment of riches, and Bissouma's eventual departure doesn't fill me with quite so much...

    [Albion] Tonight’s tactics

Yes, fantastic performance from Mac A tonight. He did the dirty work while still managing to get forward and dictate the play.

    [Albion] Positives from tonight

Funnily enough, penalty miss aside, I thought he had a really decent first half. He was linking the play well with some really good first time passes, something I haven't seen him do for a long time. Sadly though, I agree that time is running out on his time in the PL. It's fantastic to see...

    [Football] RIP David Lacey

I enjoy reading Ronay too, although I think he has a tendency to overdo the whacky similes. David Lacey is my all-time favourite football writer. Witty and erudite with a lovely, clean style. I remember he came up with a wonderful description of the disparate parts of the Albion team in his...

[Music] Best lyrics in a song

From bleak to redemptive: Well, they lay down beside me, I made my confession to them They touched both my eyes and I touched the dew on their hem If your life is a leaf that the seasons tear off and condemn They will bind you with love that is graceful and green as a steam

[Music] Best lyrics in a song

Sometimes I don't know where This dirty road is taking me Sometimes I don't even know the reason why But I guess I keep a-gamblin' Lots of booze and lots of ramblin' Well it's easier than just a-waitin' around to die One time, friends, I had a ma I even had a pa Well he beat her with a belt...

[Football] The seven worst signings in the Premier League this season

Wow, that's far too balanced a view for NSC. I don't know either whether he'll succeed or fail next season, but I've seen enough glimpses of his ability and footballing intelligence to want him to have the chance to prove himself, especially after the vile abuse I heard him getting from a...

[Albion] who are your Albion cult heroes?

I seem to remember FG almost capped his jaw-dropping display at Anfield with a winner when he volleyed just over the bar at the Anfield Road end. One of my favourite ever Albion games. Crumplin just edges it over Peter Smith for me as he was dreadful to start off with and then won the crowd...

Name The Top Three Living Bands/Musicians You Want To See LIVE Before You Die

I saw Tom Russell a few years ago in Midhurst, of all places. Great gig! Drive By Truckers are a great live band, although I think there was a bit more light and shade in their performances and songwriting when Jason Isbell was still with them. Top three artists I'd like to see live: Leonard...

    Barnes, England, Gus and Adversity.

Yes, and as Andy Naylor aptly put it in today's match report, "...Barnes should have been treading on egg shells, with his side already reduced to ten men. It was his first red card in 130 appearances but an accompanying 23 yellows emphasise an impetuous streak."

    Gary Speed dies aged 42

Utterly shocked by this news. A fine, underrated player and by all accounts a thoroughly decent human being. What he has done with the Wales team in recent months showed that he had the makings of an excellent manager. RIP Gary.

Worst attempt at a rhyme in a pop tune?

I quite like Donovan's chutzpah on this one (you'll have to imagine the squiggly accent over the "n" of Lalena): That's your lot in life, Lalena Can't blame ya, Lalena.

Funny things you have heard on the terraces.

Remember it well, and some wag also shouted "What a waste of honey!".

Saints tickets - available from 5.00 pm ? (merged threads)

Surprised that no one has mentioned the problem of being charged full price online for U-17 tickets. Had a similar problem with the Carling Cup games when I tried to book for my 14 year old son, but that was fixed eventually by a visit to the club shop and his entry was changed to U-18. Am now...

Wow! How good was Steve Earle tonight?

Yes, absolutely brilliant. How good was Telephone Road? Have seen five times now and he has never disappointed, but this was by far and away the best gig I have seen him do. Ace band!

anyone recommend a Curry House in Kemptown?

Cheers and thanks for the tip on the pub. Am also having to be selective as this is a very busy season for gigs. Would love to have seen Tindersticks, but am going to see Gillian Welch at the Dome, which should be some consolation.

anyone recommend a Curry House in Kemptown?

Are you going to the June Tabor gig by any chance, Pevensea? I seem to remember we have similar musical tastes. I was going to ask whether there are any decent real ale pubs in Kemp Town, so I'll hang on the coat tails of your thread if you don't mind.

Buying cup tickets online - child pricing

Thanks for the advice. I'll go into the shop to get a refund. It still means extra, completely unnecessary hassle though every time there is a cup match. The ticket office were obviously aware of this problem pre-season with the Spurs and Gills tickets, but nothing has been done to fix it...
