I have mentioned before about Brighton fans wittering on about Palace getting relegated after 4 poor game start, with comments like “ it’s there year to go this year” “ no depth in squad “ “ not one player would make our first team” so on and so on.

Last year on this very thread around October Palace would definitely be in the relegation battle.

At the end of the season.

FA cup winners
League cup quarter final
Qualification to the EUROPA league.
Record premier league points ( although not the most in the top division)
A disappointing league position, but still 28 points off relegation. But 13 points short of champions league.

Now I am old enough to remember Palace playing since my first game in 1972 and I have never witnessed such a good season.

One thing teams mid table premier league should remember, in the cups play your best side in all rounds in gives momentum whoever you play and you could if lucky win one.

Anyone Brighton fan saying that Palace could easily be in a relegation battle next year is purely using this as a coping mechanism for our FA Cup win. The 3 that have come up will be major favourites to go down again and even if one, two or even all three of them somehow survived i'm more than confident we would stay up still. I do however think challenging for Europe next season via the league may be quite hard for us given we have Europa League this coming season, the added games will stretch us at times but we will be adding to our squad and I would imagine we will be able to attract some very decent players now we are in Europe. I fully expect us to give the Europa League a good shot and for our club to build on the success of this season. Glasner has won it before, who knows, it could happen to him again with us!

Nah, had enough of the nonsense from this one.

There’s always next season for me to hope you have one of your worst though :lolol:

I've always said play your best teams in the cups. I was rather frustrated at our exit to Liverpool in the League Cup this year when we watered down as much as they did.

As regards the best combined team. My analysis had them virtually equal in an 18 man match day squad.

I would argue that, despite winning the FA Cup, the 1990/91 season was the best. 3rd in the league, although no Europe due to only one being allowed in the UEFA Cup at that time.

You think challenging for the Europa qualification in the league might be hard with you being in the competition? WTF when have palace EVER got anywhere near qualifying for the Europa league in the PL? The highest you have finished is 10th and your favourite finish is 12th.

Well done on the cup front but history tells us you will be churning out the mid table finishes like you always do (and likely lower mid table this season with the European games taking their toll).

Naa…No one under 40 would remember or care, winning one of the major trophies, in my view cup winners trumps coming 3rd in the league.

We can have triangular corner flags no don’t you know.

Stop it please, you are just setting yourself up for a fall, best to say these things nearer the time, not before at least the transfer window is closed. ( and I would personally wait even then )

For a club Palaces size mid table finishes is just fine as long as we have a decent cup run.

That Palace team was good and that semi-final in 1990 epic.

As regards next season, it will be interesting. Palace will start out, much like Albion did, among the favoured teams in the Europa League. There is no reason why they shouldn't progress.

As regards the toll it takes on the league, yes there may be a payback. Although the main decline in Albion's season that year was the second half in which they only had two European matches. Europe wasn't the primary cause.

I would have had, as it stands, Palace as comfortable top half candidates next year. But with Europe and the summer to come it's impossible to say really.

I'm not sure how many Brighton fans you actually know and converse with, but precisely none of the numerous Albion fans I count as friends ever say that.

As you go through yet another shitty start to a season, one of us will always say something like "They'll recover and finish 12th - they always do". We have literally no expectation that you will get relegated.

Hope this helps, although I fully expect you to trot out the same old made-up shit again.

Sorry you think you are going to be competing for a top 6 finish in the league whilst playing in two domestic cups and the Europa league? Might need to reset your expectations regardless of what happens this summer with signings (which remember could be clubs pinching your best players not just strengthening)

Unlike you Bozza, look back at around October time last year on this thread.

I do know quite a few Brighton fans as it goes, in fact a couple of the lads I meet in the pub are season ticket holders of the last 30 odd years.

Palace are 11/2 to get relegated next season on sky bet.

I am really not sure it is as long as you think. That is to go down not to be in a relegation battle. I will not be at all shocked if palace and forest are in a relegation battle.

Lots of hopes of keeping best players. Europa doesn’t do that does it? I seem to recall we lost Alexis and caicedo before our European campaign!

It will also be interesting to see who will be attracted after one season in Europe playing at Selhurst park with the squad and facilities rather than other clubs. I am not sure you have the pulling power you think. Unless of course you will start spending crazy money on wages and risk having to rip off creditors again.

I do love a bit of palace delusion in the closed season 😂😂😂

Be interesting to see if they can beat their record 53 points in the league next season (with all of their years above us they’re 3 wins behind us to equal our best….) I mean they did manage 1 point more than us last season when we were in the Europa league…..

Gutted they fluked the fa cup? Obviously. Which club is the better run? There is no debate, we are hands down the better all round outfit

First aim next season same as always 40 points and safe for another season

Why do any of them get airtime on here? Surely would be best to kick the lot of them off this BHAFC forum, then we wouldn’t need to bother about the total crap they usually come up with.

Alternatively, you could lose key players to injury and miss out on qualifying for Europe through the league.

Obviously that isn't a risk that Palace ever have to worry about.
