All I’ve been reading from Palace fans over the last few days is how once there dodgy start was out of the way they were brilliant.

Imagine my surprise on seeing this:

The FA cup win seems to be really getting at some Brighton fans making them very bitter and twisted, it’s not good for them to hold such ugly / angry feelings in their heads…go and watch some Cricket, Sussex have had a better than expected start to the season.

Enjoy your summer.

At no point have I suggested that Brighton weren't unlucky with injuries or that you didn't have your own issues. You asked why we finished 12th and I told you: we had a bad opening to the season for the reasons that I described. As soon as that difficult period was out of the way, we were consistently very good and ending up taking home the first major trophy that either of our clubs has ever managed to win :)
Brighton had an average of 22 players competing in international breaks across all age groups at one point; we started the season with the second youngest squad in the PL, recruited 9 new players none of whom had played in the PL 1 before; We suffered 2nd highest number of injuries in the PL this season (us 22 v you 14) , we had a new manager
also new to the PL yet:

  • finished three places and 13 points better off than last season
  • 23 of those points from losing positions with no other PL team winning more
  • We had the youngest manager in the PL in his debut season making substitutions which gave us the most goal involvements from substitutes in the PL (25 – 15 goals, 10 assists).
  • We had the best goal distribution in the PL (18 players)

What was your excuse for finishing 12th again? 🙂

In answer to the thread title, I suspect what CP fans are ‘fearful of’ now, in the light of being in the bottom half of the table without European Football, is can they avoid relegation next season with it?

(We finished 11th the season we competed in Europe yet still had the highest injury tally in the PL, a manager halfway out the door and a squad that had sold it’s best players the previous window.)

Can we now move back in keeping with the thread title?

Though they may not have thought about it yet, playing Europa League and in the PL, with the paucity in depth they have, no guarantees they’ll keep their manager and some players and the fact that they were very lucky with lack of injuries, can I suggest that relegation may turn into their biggest fear a month or so into next season?

One day our dearest wish will come about :lolol:

Your concern for our welfare is to be applauded but I'm not going to get over you guys winning the cup anytime soon. I'm not bitter and twisted. Just wildly frustrated.

Ah, well. Onto 2025/26.

So, in summary...

Premier League 2024/25: Albion > Palace
First half of the season, before Palace got going: Albion > Palace
Second half of the season, when Palace were up and running: Albion > Palace

And just checking further:

Results against top-half clubs: Albion > Palace
Results against bottom-half clubs: Albion > Palace

And "Albion" = injury-ravaged side, missing numerous players each week and often unable to field four specialist defenders.

There really is some top-tier delusion happening up in Croydon.

Not that bitter about Palace winning the FA Cup hence qualifying for what will be a fantastic experience for Palace fans as it was ours,I'm actually glad all over they beat the cheats at Wembley, what does boil my piss is how we didn't seemingly want it as much in the league games,Palace tactically and physically we're the better team in both games and forget injuries blah blah I wanted to see a bit more from us.

Palace may lose a few players to the big boys money lending schemes and they will soon find out it's incredibly hard to play Thursday Sunday once the season gets cracking,we shall see how European footy effects their league form, until then nobody knows how they'll handle it.
I'll have 50p with anyone that we'll finish above Palace again next season by at least 9 points though 😁

Anyone Brighton fan saying that Palace could easily be in a relegation battle next year is purely using this as a coping mechanism for our FA Cup win. The 3 that have come up will be major favourites to go down again and even if one, two or even all three of them somehow survived i'm more than confident we would stay up still. I do however think challenging for Europe next season via the league may be quite hard for us given we have Europa League this coming season, the added games will stretch us at times but we will be adding to our squad and I would imagine we will be able to attract some very decent players now we are in Europe. I fully expect us to give the Europa League a good shot and for our club to build on the success of this season. Glasner has won it before, who knows, it could happen to him again with us!

Yet more delusion.

Palace could be in a relegation battle next season.
Brighton could be in a relegation battle next season.

Around half of the Premier League, if things go a little bit awry, could be in a relegation battle in any given season. It's the nature of the beast, and to think otherwise is incredible arrogance.

It may not be probable, but it's certainly possible.

I did not say relegation couldn't happen to us, I just think it's highly unlikely. One look at the bottom 3 from the last two seasons shows you it's more than likely that the promoted team will really struggle due to the rest of the league having a huge amount more money them and better players.
