A fine example of Tory debating style. This one sentence includes an insult, a distortion of the truth and a spoilt child flounce.

The cheap selling off of a nations assets under the banner of a 'property owning democracy' was bloody criminal.

Cant stand the cow and will gladly lead the celerbratory conga, but what would you expect from a lefty, lazy, student, union supporting scum, mamby pamby, work shy, soap dodging communist like me.

And the right-wing in this country are so consistent on the application of market forces, aren't they?

Well, listen to the right-wing farming and countryside communities squealing like their own little pigs about the level of subsidies they're given.

Don't try and make out that it's only the lefties who think we should support struggling industries. It's the Tories as well. The only difference being is that the Tories only do it when it suits them. Typical.

Actually the NFU would be happy for subsidies to be fazed out as would most farmers.

No its just lefties who live in a time warp, new jobs come old ones go. Thats the history of the last 300 years. Destroying new ones by subsidising old ones does nothing but harm, see france for details.

Back on topic.

Thatcher didn't rioll over to foreigners who hate us and want to destroy us like blair and straw, therefore better than what we got.

No, she preferred to sell them the arms to attack us with ( Matrix Churchill for instance, or the Iraqi ' supergun ' ! )

Her defence of General Pinochet, was somewhat misguided IMHO.

The Anglo-Irish Agreement and the Single European Act, two of the biggest transfers of British sovereignity in the last 25 years, both happened under her premiership.

That minority is in fact a majority and they are often called 'the poor'.

I'm glad you think her intentions were always good though, you must be able to see the best in people. When she privatised the railways, I always thought it was a bit of thievery designed to make her rich friends richer. She was obviously just convinced by the brilliant arguments that existed, and still exist, for running it in private hands.

She did not privatise the railways, that was Major's mob, although they probably did it as there was nothing else left to sell, other than air.

Firms broke gov rules to sell components to iraq, you knowledge of the past is as blinkered as your politics.

Tend to agree about pinochet but then we aided the Russians in WW2 so it can hardly be seen as significant.

You have to give her credit for the defiance she showed against the IRA.

Perhaps, but I'd be inclined to give her less credit for the defiance she showed against:

a) the obvious problems in Northern Ireland
b) genuine peaceful Republican political leaders
c) the government of the Republic of Ireland

When she came to power Britain was an economic wreck, unions ran the show, our global standing was low.

With hindsight it was as near to a dictatorship as we've seen this century. Few, if any, of her Cabinet had the balls to disagree with her, she didn't like other women in positions of power and she recruited her Cabinet almost exclusively from Oxbridge, so it was a bit of a club.

I think she re-instilled a work / business ethic that we've never really lost since she's gone.

On balance I'd have to say she was 1/3rd good, 2/3rds bad.

Capitalism offers opportunity to the willing and able.

Socialism offers uniform misery to us all.

Be careful Pavilionaire that was close to a balanced appraisal. Remember only extremes of opinion are allowed.
