I was watching some prog on Special Care Unit for babies this wk and there was a couple who were over on holiday visiting family from some foreign country and the lady went into major premature labour and ran up a £800,000 bill which they would have been liable to pay had their own countries government not bailed them out (which they did - and fair enough in my view) - So I can't understand why this has happenede!?

I don't know, but I expect that like most stories in the Sun, there is more to this than what they have included in their story.

Spanish, if you're going to get all prickly when someone debates with you then you shouldn't post on threads like this. Jeez.

Indeed. They do like to leave out the odd fact don't they. I thought you couldn't fly past a certain week of prenancy too? To be fair she may have flown earlier i've nt even bothered reading the article and probably won't! Glad all the babies survived though - I did look at the pics! Also that is the biggest preggers belly i've seen!

'' I thought you couldn't fly past a certain week of prenancy too?''

Sorry that did make me laugh .......

Your an expectant mother in a country where infant mortality is one of the worlds highest and you expect her to worry about a negligible risk to her unborn babies on a flight bound to a Country that will offer some of the best medical care on the planet.

If it was Nigerian Airline ( if one exists ) then we can confidently assume that their procedures are not what is needed whilst if it was a British carrier then anyone confronting a large black woman disguising her pregnancy would be frightened to death of allegations of racism.

I can understand her actions, but it represents a wider problem.

There is always a finite access to funds in all of our services, so for those proclaiming that we are wonderfully civilised to offer the care and associated costs, please remember that somewhere within our NHS someone has lost some level of care because of this.

Brilliant, a chelsea fan comes on a Brighton board to start a thread that has nothing to do with football again.

I wonder if he has some kind of agenda?

you live in a country stolen from its owners why dont you give them your house and stop haunting me.

And you live in the country that did the stealing. Why don't you give them your house?

Oh and it is a rhetorical question so don't answer it!

hadnt planned to mate its too tedious for words. its up to australians to wrestle with their consciences and stop blaming britain and convincing themselves that a previous evil race of people called the british did their dirty work for them before the good bloke aussies came along.

is that the best you can do. we could post up all the countries that incorporate the union flag into their own. tuvalu anyone?

And the union flag in the corner shows that we had some influence on some part of that country's history. Therefore we take some responsibility (or guilt) for our involvement in that part of their history.

not as much as people who actually went and lived there i would say. i have never been there and have no relatives move there to my knowledge, i may have in a tiny way profited from some of britains accumulated wealth from the empire helping to fund my health care and education, but i am as culpable as someone whos family went out and lived there. doesnt stand up for a second and you know it.

Within this post you have admitted that you are somewhat culpable. To what degree i have no idea, but I would imagine it would be more than a 'tiny profit or benefit.

If you have no need to wrestle with your conscience with some of the thing done in the name of Great Britain then good on you. I find I do share some of the guilt about some of the things done to some people around the world, especially when I see that the effects of some of those actions are still echoing today.

I would be very interested to see a stat on what bills British tourists run up in Spanish hospitals.
