The dull part of the south coast
Not a good look. I’d be embarrassed if we did the same.
Popcorn and ring side seats for us. The good thing is we’re not involved in the shenanigans. If Palace have f***ed up, tough shit. They might get a decision in their favour or we get a free pass into Europe. Hey Ho! :drink:

If it wasn't Palace, I'd be very confident indeed of a European place coming for us.

But they have their own rules. These were on display in the cup final where their Keeper was allowed to handle outside the box and Haaland bizarrely took himself off penalty taking duty.

I'm still with The Dullard on this. Their main argument (and that of the pro-Palace media) is that their players and fans deserve Europe because they won the cup, a couple of broken admin rules shouldn't matter. I think ultimately and very unfortunately, this argument will win.
No chance that argument would win this, vibes do not stand up in court.

There is a slim chance Palace could argue that their management structure means that Textors 45% share ownership is actually worth far less than that. Honestly though, that is a bit of a stretch and a potentially exploitable loophole that UEFA would not be keen on legitimising.

In my view it's only Textor selling up that can resolve this situation in Palace's favour, removing the conflict of interest entirely.

The rules have been in place for a while and all the other clubs have made the necessary adjustments to comply. To allow an exception because they feel sorry for the Always Ultras and their missed tifo opportunities will no doubt invite legal action from clubs who have followed the rules.

Textor has 45% the rules say 30% it's as clear as day. Textor has f**ked this up and he clearly had no idea he had, the melon!

The fans are customers and the players are employees, they may deserve it but they don't run the club. The Palace management and stakeholders have the authority and the responsibilities that goes with it.
And the same applies to FFP rules. If a club breaks them, the team gets a points deduction and possibly relegated. So the fans suffer. I don't think UEFA will be persuaded in any way whatsoever by the thought that Nigel might not get his European tour.

This is from the UEFA rule book and referenced under the MCO rules as to what would happen if a club is banned.

View attachment 203903

22-23 season Juventus finished 7th in Serie A, however they were banned from entering UEFA competition due to failing UEFAs FFP rules. Their place in the Conference League went to Fiorentina who finished 8th. So there is clear protocols and recent evidence for the place to filter down the league should a team be banned.

So according to the rule above Forest would get the Europa League spot and we could get the Conference League spot if Palace are banned and the Premier League access is adjusted.
Although this rule appears to be predicated on the league qualifications - whereas Palace was because of the FA Cup. So I had a fear it would go to the other finalist (City, so it wouldn't be them), or semi-finalists (Villa & Forest - not them, as both in the CL), so - quarter-finalists. Us, Fulham, Preston, Bournemouth. We're the highest league placed of all of them - so we should be okay....!

At board level it's f***ing amateur hour, nothing more, nothing less. Which is utterly hilarious. Maybe now those black clad teenagers will begin to realise that their new stand isn't happening with this lot at the helm. Snake oil salesmen.

Someone will be losing their job over this, knowing how these org structures work it will be a senior level admin or an advisor, the guys at the top normally delegate the detail. At board level they have been completely side-swiped by this, they just didn't know, which is zero defence, fantastic.

They would only be displacing us from the Conference League, and personally I'd be a little disappointed if our club kicked up an unseemly fuss and launched a legal challenge over it. But who knows....
UEFA's rules forced Tony Bloom to sell shares in USG. Since that date USG have become Belgian Champions and will be playing in the Champions League. Therefore, those shares he had to sell then are a lot more valuable now.

The same is likely to be the case for Marinakis' Forest shares now they have qualified for Europe for the first time in decades.

Contrast that with Textor's shares that have increased in value since Palace won the cup and qualified for Europe. If he sells now the market rate is higher than what it was on 1st March 2025, that being UEFA's deadline day. If Palace are allowed to compete he will profit by breaking the rules.

This is why UEFA must enforce their rules, otherwise they face multiple legal challenges, rather than just one challenge from Palace.

The flip side to that argument is that Textor will find it harder to sell the shares due to an inflated value because of a one off cup win. He couldn't get a buyer at pre Cup win value. Delicious irony. Love it.

Only cup winners can qualify for Europe. UEFA banned the place being given to runners up about 10 years ago.

The place always goes back to the next best team to not have qualified in the league.

I have signed off work emails with Boomshanka.

Got to make sure the recipient is of appropriate age to understand the joke. Millennials and Gen Z snowflakes would have me in HR trouble.

They'll probably be OK. But all this has taken the shine off their cup win... which is funny.
Yep.

As well as the fact that all this uncertainty will be having an effect on their recruitment plans. I've said before, they have a decent starting 11 but a wafer thin squad and need to bulk up their squad with quality and quantity quickly or they are going to have a very tough season after Glasner's poor start, then the European football, Thursday/Sunday fatigue and injuries kick in.

I think ultimately they'll be allowed in but this is win/win for us either way.

Matt Lawton does make a very good point, that selling his 43% share with 25% voting rights will make it very difficult to sell to anyone.
Harris and Blitzer are really the only game in town, who else would want to buy with these voting rights, this is unlikely to mean a lower value. Does Textor really need the money? If not just hang in there, Europe will be a one off anyway
