[Football] If Palace can't play in the Europa League

It's 'unfortunate' for Palace that it's Brighton and Forest who'll benefit most from their expulsion.

Regardless of letters being sent, Uefa will be very aware that both Tony and Marinakis have previously needed to restructure their ownership of other clubs to satisfy the rules.

It wouldn't be a good look for UEFA turn a blind eye to that lot now.
If it wasn't Palace, I'd be very confident indeed of a European place coming for us.

But they have their own rules. These were on display in the cup final where their Keeper was allowed to handle outside the box and Haaland bizarrely took himself off penalty taking duty.

I'm still with The Dullard on this. Their main argument (and that of the pro-Palace media) is that their players and fans deserve Europe because they won the cup, a couple of broken admin rules shouldn't matter. I think ultimately and very unfortunately, this argument will win.

I wouldn't be surprised if Barber has written to UEFA, on behalf of the Club, seeking urgent clarification on the rules of multi-club ownership and on timescales for resolution of this matter, so we can plan our resources for the upcoming season. We're too classy to make this public, but it would have been written in formal legal language so UEFA are aware that we would reserve the right to take things further if necessary. That is the right way to add pressure to UEFA and their due process.
It’s nothing to do with Barber. And we are very clear on the rules. TB disposed of shares in USG for that very reason.

I very much doubt we would get involved (however informally) into the investigation between UEFA and another PL Club.

We have absolutely no legal standing here whatsoever.

A lot of the comments here appear to be tainted by our rivalry with Palace and clutching at straws that we might get into Europe still - unfortunately that makes us more than a little partisan!

There’s no guarantee, theirs (or if they have a massive points deduction, City’s ) European place would come to the next in line who hasn’t qualified - there appear to be no rules on what happens to a place when a Club is penalised and barred from competing unless anyone can point to where that is written?

That said,

You've broken the rules, hold your hands up now, admit your guilt and save everyone the bother of thrashing things out in ugly, time-consuming and expensive legal ways.

Consider yourselves fortunate that there are honest, well-run and organised clubs available to take your place and fulfil the Premier League's obligations to UEFA's competitions.

👍

I think there'll be a decision before then. They're just saying it's not imminent while their lawyers sort things. I imagine it'll come out sooner.

I have no background in any of this other than random forum posting.

Dave said they’ll be kicked out, so that’s good enough for me.

Should that argument win, that would mean that the two clubs rules is over, and owners can have multiple clubs which could then play against each other, and ultimately the owner could choose which one he wants to win. Imagine if a lifelong fan owned a PL club, who were in a final against some random team in Belgium they'd invested in.

UEFA can't let that happen.

Of course we do. If rules are adhered to, Palace can't take up their place, which goes to Forest. The Conference League place is due to go to the next highest PL ranked club, which would be us. So of course we have a legal standing here.

If City were docked points, then it wouldn't be their place, it would be the next team. It's different with the EL place, which wouldn't have to be given to Forest. But if it was given to Forest, the by the rules the Conference place would have to go to us.

Or “Thursday/Friday/will Saturday be ok?” if you’re Crystal Palace.

I find it surprising that people think our club won't be over this like a rash.

Bloom sold shares in the now Belgian Champions to make sure we could play in Europe. Wouldn't he want some sort of compensation if that was unnecessary?

What's the tv money etc for a Conference League place?
I think Chelsea got c£21m for winning the CL. In comparison to a team in the Champions League getting c£20m for not getting out of the first group stage.

Well done Nottingham Forest. I trust BHA are writing to all the other PL clubs and point out what NF have and a few more contact UEFA and game over Nigel!
Frankly I'm happy for Forest to do the dirty work, its kind of their style. Hopefully they will launch a legal challenge when CFPC2010 get let in.

The longer the whole thing gets spun out the better.

The fans are customers and the players are employees, they may deserve it but they don't run the club. The Palace management and stakeholders have the authority and the responsibilities that goes with it.

Do we actually know if Forest/Marinakis have made any representation to UEFA over this, or is it just wishful thinking/projection that they have?

Come to that, where's the FA Cup money?

You don't really do the Conference League for money. Not that much more than the FA Cup when compared to PL money.

This is from the UEFA rule book and referenced under the MCO rules as to what would happen if a club is banned.

22-23 season Juventus finished 7th in Serie A, however they were banned from entering UEFA competition due to failing UEFAs FFP rules. Their place in the Conference League went to Fiorentina who finished 8th. So there is clear protocols and recent evidence for the place to filter down the league should a team be banned.

So according to the rule above Forest would get the Europa League spot and we could get the Conference League spot if Palace are banned and the Premier League access is adjusted.
