Given the state of the US right now, I think Trump is just one head on the Hydra that has the US by the balls - plenty of people in the shadows behind the throne, including JD Vance.

None of them have trumps charisma though. I just don't imagine Vance or any of the others to have anywhere near the same influence on the MAGA base. I may be wrong, though

They don’t it’s true. However, I think the outspoken MAGA Trump base is only the tip of the iceberg of the very deep chasm ripping America in two ideologically speaking. If the ‘deep state’ wanted Trump dead he’d be dead by now imo. Trump being assassinated would give the MAGA movement an enormous impetus - they‘d have a true martyr and any movement with a martyr for a figurehead is very powerful as history demonstrates.
