Going with my wife and grown up son. Staying just south of the stadium. Dont have a ticket but fancied a few days in Amsterdam. No idea where we are watching yet but happy for any ideas or for anyone to join us.
I'm staying quite near the station, so very central. Perhaps we might start a non-headbanger "where to meet to watch the game in a nice pub" thread

(I am very peculiar so can easily see myself watching the game in my hotel room, but that would be a bit sad)

Would be good to meet up and watch. Let me know where you are thinking of going closer to the time.

Any idea what the best tram / metro ticket option is. Need to get from Airport to centre and then getting around for about 4 days and back to airport
I have an anonymous ov-chip card (like an oyster card), this is going to get you the prices everyone pays (if you pay for individual tickets it costs more), however there is a 7.50 up front cost. you can pick these up from the ticket machines or the NS (train) service desks at the airport. You would have to get the balance of your card back from the service desks at the end (as long as there is less than 30 on it otherwise you have to send in for it, which seems like a pain). I have never done this so no idea if it is easy.

The way the people who keep up with modern technology are doing it is with their phones and debit cards: https://www.gvb.nl/en/customer-service/ovpay-check-and-out-your-debit-card/ovpay-how-it-works.
not sure how difficult it is for non-dutch bank accounts, as I have never done it.

this works for trains, trams, metros and busses. just remember to check in and out.

The Fatherland
Not sure if it’s been mentioned already in this thread but I’ve heard most are meeting for drinks at De Blauwe Papegaai 👍🍻🦜
A favourite of mine. See you there!

Sorry to be a spoilsport. My cousin has lived in Amsterdam for thirty years. He follows Sparta (Rotterdam).
His words are "A fan zone suggests toilets, food, screens etc. There are none of these. Just a wall of riot
police. Avoid Dam Square at all costs. There's one overpriced pub and you'll get escorted to your metro far
too early."

Hi,

Finally I managed to log in to this account - been some years.. :)

My friend and I will be staying at a hotel next to Central Train Station. Also looking for some advice where to meet up! Arriving Wednesday and leaving Friday evening.

My friend bought tickets via Stubhub. Does anyone know what is the next step to actually get the tickets :)? Do we really need to use the Ajax App? if yes, can my friend have both tickets there, or do I need to create one as well?

Hove actually
was talking to an ex colleague who lived In Amsterdam until last year and his local was https://www.cafe-thuys.nl/ located in De Clercqstraat 129, 1053 AK Amsterdam, Netherlands. Highly rated. Great choice of beers and grub. Seems like a little out of the way but easy by tram. Not sure I want to be anywhere near Dam Square too early (been there, seen it, done it) and fancy decent beer and food (with toilets) first so, if there are any odds and sods out there who fancy meeting up early doors before heading to Dam see you there.

The Avenue then Maloncho
I don't intend going anywhere near it, I want to meet and chat to Dutch people about the game and city, not listen to oafs drunkenly bleating on about if it wasn't for the Brits the Dutch would be German...
Oh yeah ? Well prepare yourself to hear one Dutchman ask the other “wie is deze saaie” (although this might not have translated well as there probably isn’t a Dutch word for “dullard”)

PS I am only joking with you of course as I do see your point of view and share your concerns, however this hasn’t happened yet, and you never know, it might not. Personally I’ll deal with it* when it happens.

*when I say “deal with it” i mean move tables or go to another bar.
