Yes and no. Part of the issue with the 4-1-0-0-0-0-4-1 system we play is that it means Baleba has to cover an incredible amount of space all on his own.
In that one instance, and it got sorted second half, incidentally by Ayari dropping deeper and Eatupinan actually pushing further forward, the...
I totally agree. I’m writing this season off for those reasons, although I think it’s a huge missed opportunity for us. I have serious concerns about his ability to tactically adapt to this league and set us up accordingly. But hopefully he’ll start to really learn what’s needed sooner rather...
I think it’s mad to suggest that expectations shouldn’t be raised when you spend £200m in a summer. The fact that the club are pushing this narrative shows how poorly we seem to have spent the money (although I hope these players improve after a season or two). The reality is that almost none of...
His role was interesting tactically yesterday. I thought the first half, where we spent a lot of time counter attacking, he’d have been perfect.
When he came on second half and we controlled much more of the ball, Gruda would’ve been perfect.
In the end, neither played especially well.
I thought he did a lot well in terms of driving us up the pitch, but he actually gave the ball away a ton, didn’t have a shot, didn’t play a key pass, didn’t make a tackle… so there’s perspective.
In hindsight, it was a very Leeds performance - he looked like he was doing a lot without actually...
He’s not shown much of that this season, which has been the biggest worry. Most of our good results have been in spite of him, rather than because of him.
And we’ve still not put two good halves together.
I think it was the aim for a lot of fans following our £200m spend, which was the biggest in the world last summer.
I’ve adapted my expectations accordingly the last few games and enjoyed it much more, but it’s damning that we’re so far off given the resources the manager has.
Saying that...
He definitely has games where he has the Steele’s about him but, whilst I think he should’ve done better, he was left totally exposed and I’d spread the blame for their goal rather than putting it all on his shoulders.
BV - 6 - didn’t have a ton to do, but made a mess of their goal. His kicking was a bit suspect, at times. Claimed a couple of crosses under pressure too.
JV - 7.5 - struggled first 15, but once he got a grip of their left flank, he was imperious defensively. Struggled, as he often does, going...
He played in that weird high right 10 role when trying to press, almost in the role Enciso’s been playing the last couple of games but on the opposite side, whereas Ayari first half played the role further back, nearer Baleba in the defensive phase.
Both of them typically played high up when we...
This is the problem with Weiffer - his supposed good performances have all come away from home, so most fans won’t have seen them.
Unfortunately, his home performances have been dreadful at times.
We all want the summer signings to succeed though, so I guess we have to be patient with all of them.
I’m not saying he’s set the world on fire. I don’t think any of our summer signings have, if I’m being brutally honest. But there’s some I’ve seen much more from than others, and he’s one I’m confident enough to say I’ve seen enough to believe he’ll be a very good midfielder for us once he’s...
We’ll agree to disagree. I thought he was one of our better players against Brentford and looked a threat going forward and linked the play well.
He played a different role today though, and I did think he struggled with that.
For me, yes. But I understand Weiffer’s best performances have been away from home and I’ve only been to home games. In the home games I’ve seen, he’s pretty much moved between dreadful and, at best, an adequate defensive midfielder moving at snails pace.
MOR was excellent against City, and...
