The person who rubber stamped the news release at this time was the same bloke who has built our stadium, training ground and bankrolled the club for the past few years. I'm glad we've made progress with the sacking. A relief.

So, according to people on here, not only does tony do everything he hired the CEO to do, he now does everything he hired the communications department to do as well? Gees, what a micro managing control freak.

if he hadnt actually been informed over his sacking then he wouldnt of been able to announce it in the first place..looks a tad silly to me

Read what I wrote. If the club had told his lawyers earlier today how were they to know the message hadn't reached Poyet. The club may not have known he was due to be on TV tonight at first, so quickly released a statement so we knew what was going on fearing that Poyet was going to released the news himself.

If the club didn't want him to announce anything in advance on tv, they could have included a gagging clause in his settlement.

There doesn't appear to have been any settlement as he's been sacked, with a right to appeal, so therefore there are no clauses.

But why release the statement when they knew where he would be - and that he might comment live on air?

Very good point. Very strange to announce the results of the disciplinary hearing at 8pm on a sunday night. I would have thought 9am on a Monday morning would be far more suitable ?

Unless, it was the clubs attempt to twist the knife ?

Assuming the club had informed Poyet's lawyers then they would have thought that Poyet would know. Then then had the choice of allowing Poyet to announce it live on air (NSC meltdown) or for them to preempt that. Took the sensible course in my view. Some of the bed wetting hysterics on this thread need to take a good look at themselves.

Just trying to be fair to Gus by telling him asap.

I have no idea who is responsible for this collection of monumental **** ups.

I hope it's Barber, so we can sack him and have our football club back.
What are you going to do if it turns out Poyet is responsible for it all?

It is game set and almost match for Poyet now. Just a firm across court smash from him for it to be game over. What I want is a statement from BLOOM not BARBER tomorrow as he has been an unmitigated PR Disaster for me.

Stop your miserable whining. Your negativity towards the club's handling of a difficult situation says more about your inclination to look for the negative in things than it does about the club's dealings.

Mandela critical in hospital, the Met accused of trying to smear the family of Steven Lawrence, England playing in Champions Trophy final. A good evening to bury some bad news perhaps?

haha you are joking

I think it's a fair point, and not joking. The situation has dragged long enough. Better to announce it to all parties involved without building in unnecessary delay.

Poyet also looked extremely upset but dignified on BBC3 just now - much better than I would have been if I had just been humiliated on live national tv in front of several million viewers. He even thanked the fans for their forebearance.

He also seemed fantastically relaxed and happy last Sunday as he gave his analysis on tv knowing that he was not going to attend the disciplinary meeting some 12 hours later. ?

When is anything football related every straight forward?

It would appear from what Gus said that his advisors had been meeting the club today (it's more than likely that the legal teams have been trying to thrash this out all weekend) and the decision to sack him came from those meetings. Poyet's team would have already known the outcome so there was no way of informing anyone on Monday, when it became clear that Poyet was going to be on the BBC tonight the club had to make a statement to avoid the possibility of Gus announcing his own sacking on live TV.
