I think he would be foolish to leave now for Reading.
He spoke many times about how he wanted to take us as far as possible, he has not yet achieved that!
Fair enough, if this was a team certain to be in the PL next season then maybe, Chelsea or Spurs definitely.
Reading is a big risk for Gus, and I don't think he needs to take that chance now, stay here maybe win promotion, but if not start again next year, I am sure the job offers would continue to come in for him and probably a bigger club with better prospects than bloody Reading!

Much as I am delighted and excited by how far we have come in the last few years, what with TB, the stadium and a damn fine team put together by Gus that is in with a very good shout of a play off position, the timing of this is truly abysmal. If this story proves true and he is off, then I really couldn't care less which club he goes to, but I will wish upon him a plague of locusts, all the bad luck in the world and the hope that his move comes back to bite him firmly and painfully on the backside, should this (which it most likely would) affect our last few crucial matches.
Had this happened at the end of the season, I would have been gutted yet wished him well - this however, would be beyond the pale, for me anyway.

I think that 'a willingness on both sides to get the deal done' is speculation and carefully worded. Reading need a new manager asap and we need stability before the Forest game. This needs to be done OR go away quickly. I doubt the journalist has more info than you or I regarding which way it will fall.

That would all depend on his contract tbf - As we all know, contracts in football are going to have much finer details in than than the norm, and i'd be very surprised if TB would let him mull over a new job offer for a prolonged period of time. That could result in the club suffering on the pitch/training ground which in turn COULD be deemed a breach of contract. At the end of the day, we just don't know.

I buy the Independent and they never know anything. Probably got about 3 football journalists in total. And they are pretty much never in the know. Wallace has written Arsenal books and may hear a whiff of believable rumour from there, so the Albion he knows jacketyshit about.

Sounds great to me, Icy. I can't see Tanno hanging about here if Poyet does the dirty on us - as I'd imagine he'll be hanging tightly onto his master's coat-tails for a few years yet.
I guess my thoughts this morning are tempered somewhat from last night's shock, disbelief & anger. Poyet's been great for this club, but he's just been one (albeit very important) part of The Albion's amazing resurrection. If he thinks gambling on Premiership survival with that mob - because they'll have more money sloshing around regardless of what happens at the end of the season - is a move worth making: then good riddence to him, I say. No one person at our club (bar TB) is irreplaceable; & I for one will at least take some comfort in seeing an end to Poyet's penchant for continually courting a bigger job elsewhere. Just how going to Reading fulfills his oft-quoted criteria of leaving for "a very special club" is, frankly, anybody's guess though.

Ok, Barbados isn't exactly big is it. It only takes 45 minutes to fly around the entire island. You can bet your arse that Gus is staying somewhere near a beach in a s****y resort and you can probably also bet your arse that he's outside.

So many thoughts scrambling around in my head, jostling for position...
We've all known that it couldn't last forever but we probably all envisaged him moving on to an established Premiership team rather than one that might only offer him a matter of weeks in the promised land. That alone makes the whole deal feel a little squalid, as though we have been jilted. The thought that we could all be seeing him on Match of the Day each week, even if only for a short while, doesn't help the healing process.
And yet I could not bring myself to be angry at him. Not really. He would have presided over one of the most exciting periods in the club's history. Did any of us imagine we would be regularly feted in the press for our style of play? Gus has given us an identity that could and should continue well into the future.
Extending the positives, I also have every confidence in Tony Bloom's ability to attract top talent that will continue the work that Gus has begun. Our national profile is unrecognisable from where we were when Gus took over the reins. Our style of play is lauded, our stadium envied and our season ticket sales admired. Potential managers will need to form an orderly queue.
Sadly, the biggest negative may have an immediate effect. I really fear that the speculation, regardless of whether Gus leaves or not, may have already done untold damage to our promotion push. I see the Redknapp/Tottenham/England effect happening all over again. If a new manager is required they should be sat down in front of a DVD of the Palace match and commanded to put out a similar formation from now until the end of the season.
I have never had any animosity towards Reading. The Falmner situation had left us more or less paralysed when Coppell left so I could hardly blame Reading for looking after their own interests more. This time is different. We are in the midst of our own promotion push. Reading will incur my wrath for quite some time should Gus walk.

Those 'news'paper reports have been out for hours, and Gus is still 8/11 to go. It's clearly not the done deal they report it to be. If it was, someone would have some money on it, and the bookies would have stopped taking bets on Gus.

LOL but No. Assume all players are taking a few days breather too and will be dotted around all over. They would have seen the press speculation and be talking and the club would have moved quickly to either dispel it as nonsense or reassure them in some other way.
If this whole thing is bollox I think the club would have moved quickly to make a statement. The fact they haven't implies its genuine and they are waiting on Gus. It's not in anyone's interests for this to hang around and I've a feeling Gus will be up now, on the phone non stop and a conclusive statement made today,
