Indy report Poyet for sure with 2m compensation. Mirror reports 2.5m and a battle with Adkins. So basically sounds like they are guessing and haven't a clue what's going in. Seems utter madness to me why he would want to go.
As Adkins would'nt cost a buy out fee and Gus would cost between 2/2.5m compensation I think that...or hope that Reading take the cheaper route.

Having seen Poyet in the press he is all about self promotion, and he will be able to do that in the premiership better than he could in the championship even if it's for a couple of months

I think you would be better off with out him, there are plenty of better managers out there who have achieved promotion. Maybe thats what you need, a manager that concentrates on the team rather than himself?

That has crossed my mind over the last few months, more than once. Risky move for him though and bad timing for us imo.

Re: Poyet to Reading thread, massively odds on, (maybe) in talks with them [merged]

Why wouldn't he take the job, if we stay down this season and Reading come down then they will be in a better position due to the balloon pays that they'll get for the next 6 seasons (said talk sport radio)

Morning all. Looking forward to another day of lunatic histrionics based on something completely made up that won't happen?

Good.

Yeah and then face a massive claim from Gus for unfair dismissal. Gus is doing nothing wrong in speaking to a potential new employer. Should your boss sack you if you attend an interview for job with different company?

Different than a normal everyday job - I wouldn't tell my boss to start with!

O.k. don't sack him, force him to make a decision NOW not Monday ffs. This could seriously derail any chance we have of the playoffs the longer this drags on.

Good.

I have been on and off here for the last 2.5 hours, I'm already knackered with it all. Don't know what I would do without NSC and its opinions lol.

From what I have gathered so far
1) Reading want Poyet
2) Poyet has been in talks
3) Now he is thinking about it

You can get 5/1 on us being promoted this season. You can get 9/1 on reading staying up.

What that tells you is we will probably both be in the championship next season but of the two we are more likely to be in the prem.

Personally I would be amazed if Gus left us when he could be the man to take us up twice in three years to join what is at best a yoyo club with an impatient owner.

How much time would the Russian give Gus if they were'nt in the top three of the championship by October.
Foreign owners that have clubs as a plaything expect to walk away with the league, especially if they have spunked a few million on new players.
Look at Chelsea, Forest, Blackburn etc, they just sack the manager and get someone else in, so Gus would be under tremendous pressure if he went there.
That, for one reason is why I think he will turn Reading down

Along with Tony Bloom, Gus Poyet is the best thing to ever happen to this club. Not only did he get us back into the Championship, he has revolutionsed our playing style and mondernised our approach to football. Hopefully his legacy will last long with us, but underestimate his influence at your peril. It will be a HUGE loss if he goes.

Small point to pick up, but those odds have zero bearing on any teams likelihood of going up next season. They're odds for exactly what they're quoted for. Reading will come down, with bags of cash and be more likely to go up than us, should we fall short this season.

But he still won't go.

It may be different to a normal everyday job in the fact that contracts/compensation packages have to sorted out, but the same basic laws of employment apply. Forcing him to make a decision is also covered by those laws. It could be seen as constructive dismissal.

Readings run in is pretty generous, apart from arsenal next week and city at reading they have a very good run in.

After sleeping on it, here's what I think.

Theyve made him the promise of the equivalent of what he has at the Albion but with a bigger budget. That's what Reading will be next year. We'll be a slightly poorer version of them if we don't go up.

Unless Gus has had disagreements behind the scenes or fallen out with the chairman (which is possible) I just don't see him wanting to leave what he's got with us for Reading. By all means listen to them. Think about. But if he makes the move, I'll be utterly shocked.

How about this for a scenario? Gus takes the Reading job, Tanno or whoever TB gets in takes us on a run and a win in the playoff finals. Gus gets relegated with Reading.
