aren't they re-building amex house?

it would make sense. big corporations are under pressure to increase their community profile and - if they're still the single largest employer in the city - it makes sense for them to get involved at this stage when we have something so attractive for them.

regardless of their ethical reputation internationally, they have arguably done quite a lot for brighton and burgess hill.

plus their logo would look WIN on our shirts if that was part of the deal!

I love this "I don't want their money". Well you're not getting their money - the club is (allegedly). If you don't like we'll all look forward to you putting several million dollars into the clubs coffers instead.

This is what's so frustrating about football supporters. On the one hand we have fans moaning because we're not spending enough on players, and on the other hand we have fans suggesting Amex money isn't good enough. Baffles me

100% correct... I would be more than happy if Amex were the stadium sponsors, and I am a FORMER employee...

Will the company who buys the naming rights to Falmer also be our new shirt sponsors?

But Arsenal's new stadium hadn't existed in the minds of their many fans for a decade prior to it being built.

However there are still Arsenal fans who refer to it as Ashburton Grove but at the end of the day "The Emirates" isn't a bad name anyway. The Emirates being a place means it's not just a brand name.

American Express on the other hand just screams "rip off credit card stadium"

I don't want to be associated with a product that brings such misery to so many people

You won't be. The Albion will.

Also, who forces them to take out a credit card? Who forces them to spend beyond their means? People are responsible for their own actions and it thorougly irritates me that the companies who lend are to blame.

I see it as a sign of intent - A global Brand with huge investment capability and higher profile the most premiership sponsors.

Plus, the shirt will look great!

How many multi national companies can honestly say they've operated an unfailingly ethical and fair approach throughout their corporate lives?

I guess if you're getting the hump about a football stadium named after a credit card company then you never eat at McDonalds because they raze thousands of acres of Brazilian rainforest in order to provide land for beef cattle. You never drink at many high street coffee chains because they take the piss with the prices they pay coffee growers in developing nations for their product. You never fill your car up at BP stations because of what they've just done to the Gulf of Mexico, or buy any diamond jewellery because of the treatment meted out to diamond miners in Sierra Leone.

I hope the jeans you're wearing aren't machine-stitched together by ten year old kids at a factory in Guangzhou or Chennai, or your trainers by women in a Moroccan sweatshop where they get locked in for fourteen hours a day with no natural light, getting paid a pittance.

I'm not saying all of the above are acceptable, merely that you have to draw a line somewhere otherwise you'd never do anything. I don't see how American Express are any worse than any other potential sponsor. And at least it doesn't actually sound really crap, like KitKat Crescent, or the Galpharm Stadium.

Wouldn't be surprised if it became the TEVA stadium. They're a bigger company than Galpharm in the same line of work and are expanding their operations in Eastbourne.

There's been a lot of rumours re Amex so i'm guessing there's some truth in this. Just want to know for sure as finding it hard to believe someone called Gorden the Gopher :)

If there is any sense in this it will be

<sponsors name) Falmer community stadium.

Directors are happy with community
Fans will know it as Falmer
Sponsors happy as listed as well.

How about we add "association football and concert" in there too?

How about the American Express - Maryland Bank National Association Falmer Community association football and concert venue stadium?

Virtually every company name followed by communitystadium.co.uk seems to be taken.

Fortunately, Durex and Anne Summers don't appear to be among those companies
