would have had zamora in the squad over carlton cole, but anybody who thinks he should be starting ahead of heskey or crouch is wearing very albion-tinted glasses

I can see the argument for Heskey but Zamora is far better at playing the target man/hold-up role than Crouch. Considering how tall he is Crouch is absolute turd in the air.

most international defenders find crouch unplayable though - he works ok with rooney, he can do the target man role and his goalscoring record speaks for itself

Everyone's looking up front but if Rooney stays fit and on form we'll look dangerous one way. A bigger problem is that this does not look like a world cup winning defence:

James
Brown
Warnock
Terry
Upson

We need a lot of things to sort themselves out in the next few months - Hart coming on quickly, Cole, Rio and Johnson getting themselves fit and on form and Terry getting back to not allowing the fact that he's a twat affect his game...

How are SO many people still so THICK when it comes to Heskey? He's far more important to the England set up than Agbon or Crouch could ever be.

Guessing none of you watched the game yesterday? Heskey's hold up play is some of the best in the Prem.

Crouch

35 appearances
18 goals

Against ANDORRA. Whoop de doo. Give me an example of a time he has played well against a good international defence.

Here, we go again.

Are all England's World Cup games against Brazil and Spain.

No. Remind me who is in the group again. Oh, yes that's right.

So it's 0-0 after 60 minutes against Algeria, and Plan A isn't working....

f*** me, is it Groundhog Day.? I'm not buying it, etc...

My point is people post his goal scoring record as evidence that he's any good, which really isn't far off what mine would be against the same "teams". (Andorra isn't really an actual football team is it?)

I would take him, but we can only use him in two games.

OK then. Give me an example of a time he has run a GOOD defence ragged for Spurs. *Cue tumbleweed*

I'll say it quietly:

Peter Crouch is not very good. Capello agrees.

I'm actually refusing to dredge up the article for a FIFTH time, where Capello pretty much admitted to Crouch being a "last resort".

Still picked him though hasn't he, I don't think anyone thinks Crouch is amazing but if we need a goal he is a far better option than Emile 'I never score even though I'm a striker' Heskey.

Do you understand what Heskey brings to the team? Did you watch the Croatia 5-1? He was massively important to that result.

If Heskey and Crouch are both fit, Capello will NEVER pick Crouch ahead of Emile. I would bet any amount of money you want on that.

I do understand what he does for the team but I think a striker needs to be able to score not just hold play up, I wouldn't chose Crouch over Heskey but if we are 1-0 down with 60 minutes gone someone like Crouch is more likely to get you a goal than Emile.

We are scoring plenty of goals, why fix something that isn't broken? Yes I would rather Crouch in a one on one situation (against a rubbish team, he wouldn't get the space against a defence with any brains) but Emile is more likely to "create" space and goals for the likes of Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard etc, so I'd still rather him on the pitch at 1-0 down with 60 mins to go.

Otherwise, I'd bring on Defoe.

This will be my last post on this thread. If anyone's interested in how this argument pans out, they can search the old threads for the previous four times we've had it...

Crouch's goals have not all bee against Andorra, have they? Last time I saw England live was the qualifier against Ukraine at Wembley. Crouch played very well, and scored that night.

He IS a good OPTION. I know that, Capello knows that, and you know that.

Heskey is first choice alongside Rooney, and rightly so, but we have to have options, particularly for the eventuality that ROONEY is missing for any reason.
