Lovely to see how the team now seems to have found more ways to play through the press from the backline. Felt like we got a bit predictable at the tail end of last season with the over-reliance on the "De Zerbi S" down the middle, today it was all about finding outlets down the flanks, which seems to work just as well against teams not parking the bus. Big balls. Big brains.

Newcastle are going to have a poor season if they carry on defending like that

Totally different isn't it? Much was made of this two central boxes of four through the middle. What he's now doing is getting the players to move the boxes to wherever the space is.

Wow. I never saw a single game of MacAllsiter at the level Gilmour played today.

Van Hecke and Ferguson simply have to start ahead of Welbeck and Webster. They were sensational!
Why do we always have to do this with players who leave us after we play well and win? MacAllister was amazing for us, anyone saying he wasn’t is either bitter or lying.

Roberto De Zerbi speaking to BBC Match of the Day:

"Great performance against one of the best teams in the Premier League. I like Newcastle, they play good football but today we deserved to win and played a good game. We deserved to win, played a great game and I am very happy for the attitude of my players."

On Evan Ferguson:

"Ferguson scored three goals and he played very well. Not only the goals. He played 90 minutes for the team, with and without the ball. He understood very well the right positions in the first half and also Joao Pedro played very well. It was fantastic, the attitude of the players."

"We struggled last week against West Ham because we didn't deserve to lose."

"Newcastle is a fantastic team, not a good team but we played very well for 90 minutes. I'm sorry that [Callum] Wilson scored because we conceded a goal in a small mistake. I'm sorry for it but it is done. It is a small small small mistake and it was a shame to concede that goal but it is done."

That's not slagging off Mac it's testament to how good Gilmour was. If he wasn't British people would be losing their mind over that performance. He's 22!
