Without the new contract we’d have been looking at 20-30m
Unlikely IMO, but of course possible.
Edit - unlikely because, a bidding war starting at £30m is likely have reached the £45m plus quoted

Mac Allister does not seem mercenary like Trossard, and I think genuinely cares. If the contract was signed post World Cup, it could have been more - very hypothetical of course. But given the way he was treated there was clearly mutual respect.

I just think he’s worth more….

Question….

If a similar agreement is in place for Caicedo, and bearing in mind we’ve rejected Arsenal.

What is his revised value?
I would be disappointed with less than £75m - £85m

If there is a similar clause, I don’t see us adding a measly £5m on to the bid we turned down from Arsenal. I don’t think it’s an outrageous statement to declare that Caicedo is better than Enzo Fernandez. The club would have noted this fee:

He was not much better (value-wise) than Trossard pre WC, and their contract situations were similar. He’s definitely worth more but that’s on the back of the WC

Caicedo is different - we’ve already turned down 70m so the starting point needs to and will be more than that

Is it just me or....isn't £55 million rather a lot for (don't get me wrong, he's a lovely lad but....) a bang average EPL midfielder? I don't think he has the sort of pace that Liverpool need. Witch House football, certainly but, heavy metal football? Well, time may prove me wrong.....

I reckon it'll still be £70m for Caicedo. The bid in January was rejected as it didn't suit us. It still doesn't suit us, but I imagine it was agreed with the player he could go in the summer. Shame really

Look back at last season with Macalister and without Macalister, if Caciedo goes to we could have a problem because I’m not sure how we replace those two.

RDZ may want more technical midfielders similar to Man City and not just a tackling machine. Moses is great at what he does although young Billy technically is better on the ball with some beautiful defence splitters for example. Either way I’m sure the ballsy Italian has his plans in place.

I don’t 😃. Probably £10-15m light for me.

World class player, who will instantly improve a weak Liverpool midfield, however they need at least 2-3 defenders IMO to properly challenge City.

But you’re right, players come and go, but the fans are the constant….
We’ll soon have new heroes to worry…. I mean cheer….
Despite yesterday's chutzpa, I had disturbing dreams last night and woke feeling sad. I have been using a photo of Mac on the front page of a final year course I run. The thought of having to change it this week saddens me.

I was thinking of replacing him with a picture of Solly March. But Solly isn't very good looking.

There, I am not only a vacillating hypocrite, I'm shallow and superficial.

And....feeling better already, for it! A nice cup of tea, and all will be well :rave:

I think it depends how Klopp intends to use him. He's an upgrade on what they have had there this season, but I think a lot depends upon who they partner with him. He was not as good as a 10 as he was as an 8. It will be interesting to see how he settles into that team, I think Liverpool may take time to get going next season.
Let me stop you there.

Flatly, my dear, I don't Riverdance. :)

You might be able to put Milner on the front page next season.
Incontrovertible proof that human perfection is attainable.

Is it childish that posts like ‘enjoy him Liverpool’ etc are really pissing me off :lolol:

Like it or not if we are going to progress as a club the signs from last season show we will be competing with them, small club mentality some of our fans have, I wish Alexis well but f**k Liverpool.
Agreed. I'd go one further actually and say I'm not really overly sentimental about players. Once they're gone they become the enemy pretty quickly. Especially to a rival. I think I may just be really mean spirited. But I dont think it's Billy big time to want to throw off the shackles of all this 'know your place' stuff. My preference would be that he goes to Liverpool and absolutely bombs. Scores 3 own goals against us in the Europa league final. Then the following season goes to Atletico Madrid and has a great career where we can appreciate him from a distance. And other players think again about moving on.

The clearest example of the way I think about these things was encapsulated beautifully this season by a fan on the Grimsby board. Amongst the hundreds of 'we had a great day out anyway' 'brighton were really lovely just happy to be there' posts was one curmudgeonly one that went 'what is this? MAYBE all of you losers were happy to trudge 500 miles to watch your team fail to lay a glove on the opposition and get tw@tted but I wasnt' etc. It was a real manifesto for the 80s. I read it all and thought 'that's exactly how I would feel' I'd have been dreaming of a giant killing and at least throwing some heavy challenges in and ruffling feather. I'd be like, 'Oooh we got to wave inflatable fishes about and listen to some disco music. F@ck off!'

No it isn't childish. Thankfully the manager and players didn't have the same imposter syndrome when going up against Liverpool on the pitch 3 times last season.

Imagine the fall out on here if Caicedo sells for an apparent buy it now clause inserted into his new contract of £35 or 40 million
