Completely agree. £9 million is a lot of money. I would be interested to see how they plan on meeting financial fair play this season with the money they've spent.

They don't - it's a huge gamble on getting promoted. See Bournemouth last year.

If you add up all the failures it would probably be around that figure. You have got to be extremely lucky to find a lower league gem. Like I say a proven striker costs money

Whilst I would never advocate the club spending 9m on one player, it is not really the fee that is the issue. It is the wages. Paying someone 3 times more than anyone else in the team can only lead to problems later on imo. I also do not think the club are scouring the lower leagues anyway - foreign leagues, certainly, since those players are more likely to fit into our wage structure.
Interestingly, and again I am not advocating that this is the way the club should go, our current top scorer is a proven striker and cost us naff all.
What will the club do? Who knows. I suspect the club are trying to get someone in that is more affordable but if they cannot, they will use the loan system wisely and try again in the summer. But not signing Rhodes and paying him an absolute fortune is not showing a lack of ambition. We have goals in the strikers we already have and we have strengthened our supply line to them. Not all doom and gloom really.

Strange comment. I would think all clubs are serious about promotion. Everyone has different ways of doing it. Some will always throw money at it. There a very few clubs in this division that can really afford 9 million.
Middlesbrough have spent in excess of 30 million if the Rhodes deal happens. Derby not far behind. They must be making massive losses this year and I think 1 of those 2 will miss out this year. Then what
Transfer embargoes, players leaving, loans only, players only up to 10k a week. Rhodes has no real resale value now at 26 if he stays all 4 years at Boro.I would love to see BHAFC buy a proven striker but not at the expense of the entire football club. You may say it's a gamble worth taking and it may pay off for Boro but there are no guarantees.
Looking at value Murray for 93 days would be just a good a signing as 9 million on rhodes

As the fans are the lifeblood of all clubs it can't be right to have a system (FFP) fans can't comprehend. We know Derby has spent £25m this season but Boro if they sign Rhodes probably more. Given the smaller attendances they get we quickly need to scrap FFP and come up with a fairer system or fans will lose interest unless clubs break the rules like Derby & Boro and QPR & Bournmuff before them!

It is clear that FFP will not be enforced sufficiently so it really is a judgement call by club owners as to whether they are willing to gamble 20-30 million to reach the Premier League. Bloom is not, who are we to question it? We should just be grateful that he has taken us from Withdean and soaked up the losses since. It would be nice if he would invest another 20 million to get us promoted but this is a pretty good division anyway IMO.

Bloom hasnt invested what he has for this division. He wont stump up £10m plus losses each year forever

Agreed and why should he? However he could have stumped up another 20 million to gamble on promotion and then he might stop having to fund us to the tune of 10 million a season. He chooses not to, which is again his decision and either way we are lucky to have him.

I honestly don't think fans will lose interest in football because of FFP.

But £30 million spent on player purchase this season will, assuming the average contract length is 4 years, only 'cost' the business/club £7.5 million in amortisation/depreciation in the current year's accounts (but the same amount for the next 3 years too). If player signs mid-way through the season, as Rhodes is/has/might do, then only 50% of the annual amortisation will be chargeable.
With the permitted loss under Championship FFP being £13 million pa for 2015/16 it seems entirely plausible to me that, if you complied last season when the limit was £6 million (I think), you could spend £20-30 million and still comply.
