He spent millions on strikers at Norwich, I agree I'd like to see us play two up front or at least two attacking wingers but it's not in Hughton's tactics book.

He actually played Ellmander and Van Wolfwinkel together up front for most of the season but they just didn't do the business. Partly because the midfield created very little for them. He is very adaptable but I agree he is cautious about pushing the full backs forward

That's £9-20 million, depending (Ross McCormack went for £11 million), on strikers alone.

I'm glad you're paying for it.

Ulloa cost £2m.
They are out there. There will be out of contract strikers available.
Zamora (I know it's been done to death) would still be a beast in this league, his shirt sales would cover most of his wages and he would give the whole place a MASSIVE lift.
One or two quality loans are fine for a full season, it's the 1 month loans that are pointless.

Because two up top is boring, unimaginative and stone age hoof ball football?

....as opposed to the fantastic entertaining football we have been playing the last few years.

Barnes would have got an easy 20 goals this season mate. Would then have been able to sell him for more than Ulloa. Or - crazy talk! - offered him an extra thruppence a week in wages not to have to relocate his family to some shit town oop north

To be fair, he lived in Burgess Hill when he was here, so the shit town would never have been an issue

Quite agree with your last line, I cannot think of a single 1 month loanee that I would have wanted to sign, can you .
Paul Dickov is the only one that springs to my mind.

I'm not a fan of 4-4-2 but didn't we walk league one playing dazzling football and scoring shed loads of goals with two up front? Two up front doesn't necessarily mean a regimented, old fashioned 4-4-2.

Yeah just copy everyone else, become a generic 442 team with generic kits and generic fans blah blah. Don't sell out, try to retain some principles.

Yep I'm all for not copying everyone else and not selling out and above all retaining our principles just as long as we are all happy playing in league 1.

Wouldn't we all mark? But Hughton will not change his spots, he's a boring manager.

As opposed to what?....an exciting manager?....what exactly is a boring manager?
Are you referring to his style of play? Or his demeanour? I suppose that old dinosaur Pulis is boring as well. Funny how most on here wanted him as manager. Ruthless, disciplined, pragmatic and boring....and very successful.

There is usually a reason that a majority of your peers make the same choice.........because it is the best option!

Now isn't that a funny thing....a midfield creating very little for its strikers. Where have we seen that before.? Oh, hang on...its not the fault of the midfield, its the useless strikers we've got, according to most of the footballing geniuses who post on here. They couldn't hit a barn door at three paces...get rid of all of them...spend millions on different ones who will suddenly bang in 20 goals from the same lack of service.
The midfield is the most important area of the team. Its the engine room. It drives the team forward and it creates chances for the front men. Until we get that right at BHA, we will continue to struggle.
....and on the subject of full-backs pushing forward...Hughton ( a former full-back himself ) knows the importance of good defending down the flanks. Bennett and Bruno cannot defend and neither get back quickly from forays upfield. Is it any wonder he is cautious about them getting forward.

Hughton plays incredibly defensive football and tries to grind out 0-0s or 1-0 wins. As for Pulis being a boring manager, did you watch some of the football Palace played with him as manager?

I do have a preference for 4 3 3 although I am swayed by all the great teams
of recent years Barcelona Real Madrid Bayern Munich the German and Spanish
national teams.Of course they had a different quality of footballers ,
particularly in the wide attacking positions and attacking midfield.
I am all in favour of tailoring the formation to suit the players
as opposed to the other way round .So for me it depends who we bring in.
I do not think there will be room for Ince Stephens and Kayal in
a 4 4 2 and we made need two wide midfielders as well as more strikers.
But if we get the players and lets face it we are several players short
of a promotion chasing team whatever formation we play 4 4 2 may work well
for us ,we may score more goals the opposition may dominate the ball
in the midfield etc etc but success will not depend it.

There was a stat on here a while back that on chance creation and shots per game we were 6 th in the table . Which would counter that we do actually make chances but the strikers don't convert . I am sure there is a stat that covers goals to chances made . I reckon we would be bottom

I'd have a good look at the 7 players that B'muff have just released, Ian Harte could do a job for one.

Yep lets have 3 full backs well into their 30's with no pace to get up and down the wings and one center back at the ripe age of 34..

Long in the tooth now, but a class act. Scores goals and good at set pieces too. Ideally we want a young left back, but if we can't find one that's good enough (and there's no guarantee that we will; they don't exactly grow on trees), Harte might well be a decent shout for one season.
