Oh good. As if this subject hasn't been debated ad infinitum before, has it?

"It's just banter"

"it's no longer acceptable and there are laws against it"

"this country is going to the dogs"

"you're a dinosaur. This is the 21st century"

"you're making football sterile. It's a working man's game. The language should reflect that"

"it's a family game now"

I think that sums up the debate quite nicely. Have I missed anything?

You aren't thinking of the children.

Last night wasn't 'banter' FFS, it was disgusting. Groups of twats shouting 'faggot' with malice isn't 'banter', it's aggression and there no call for it. Not in this age.

If you're not gay then why should you be offended, its like someone calling me a black cu*nt even though im white.

Neither are offensive because neither are true???

but when a former footballer was recently called a black c.u.n.t. on Twitter he was offended. Was it the black bit (which was true - or trueish) or the c.u.n.t. bit (palpably untrue as he bears no resemblence to that part of the anatomy) that offended him? Whichever, I would maintain he had every right to be offended and to be protected in law from such abuse.

To the Police:

Deal with real violence first,
and obviously physical & verbal violence against gay people in their own lives.

With your limited resources, homophobic chants against a mass Albion crowd, definitely should be a lower priority than the above.

Shocking if you did not deal with all violence last night (per the above reports) by coming down hard on the scum & making arrests 100% of the time.

Definately this, the people on NSC that think this kind of 'banter' is ok, obviously don't go to the Amex with their girlfriends/wives or young kids

There is a line, something like "we can see you holding hands" isnt bad at all and isnt really offensive, however when you get fans shouting things like "you all have aids" then thats very offensive.

correct 'does your boyfriend know your here' if we didnt hear it every week it would be funny (its rather boring now tbh) but some of the filth millwall fans were screaming in the faces of fans as i walked past them was disgusting, i mean what is it about these away fans that seem obsessed with Gay sex as soon as they arrive in Brighton? feel sorry for them all, i love the cultral way Brighton is and would much prefer to live here than in Bermondesy or Barnsley. its their loss

Last night after the match was different; the Millwall fans took homophobia to a new level.

Shouting 'AIDS scum' on a loop whilst making BNP salutes was properly unpleasant. Kids and women around or not (and there were many) it was really nasty. They created a proper atmosphere of hatred. Don't see how it can be defended at all.

you lot of wimps dont seem to understand , they say and act like they do because no one stands up to them, most away fans come here and take the piss. if we had notorious fans they would think twice about the way they act so now we have to put up with this behaviour on a regular basis ,we live in a nice area in a diverse city which is not to everyones taste , you moan about hommo chanting but say nothing about what your kids see on a certain day in the summer at a local park ' alot of brightonians have moved away because they dont like the way brighton is these days lots of lefty pc brigade moving in . get a backbone and a life instead of moaning ,other fans see these comments on here and when its there time at the amex take the piss even more . not everyones nice in this world not everyone likes each other get over it

There is a line where "banter" becomes abuse. Do you think it's acceptable when it's
a) in front of kids and b) scares them ?

Surely any behaviour that upsets kids or scares them is wrong, not just because it's homophobic? If someone is being drunk and agressive but not homophobic, it doesnt make it any better?

The only reassurance I get from all this, is that eventually this level of abuse/intimidation/threatening behaviour will die off along with the people who do it. Those clubs that are swamped with these types of supporters (sorry Millwall, that's you) will fizzle out because they can't evolve and only a hardcore of BNP idiots will stick with them. They'll get left behind and frankly, if they can't shift them, that'll be their fault.

So as they stand there teaching their children to scream 'AIDS scum' at women and the elderly, take a deep breath and realise they aren't long for the world. Cheerio, twats.

People do tend to 'show up' on here as it's a fans forum where people can express their opinions and view others.

Cor 'aids scum aids scum' how awful!!! Shocking homophobic abuse.

Incidently i have never seen a fuss about some of the disgusting chants that used to be aimed at David Beckham and his wife and children but off course that sort of thing wont interest the PC leftie liberals of this world will it......because he's a white hetrosexual male.

I just think some perspective is needed here and going back to my first reply the Police's priority should be to arrest people inflicting physical violence.................'sticks and stones......................'

Surely if chanting lame unfunny chants is considered fun then you're a sad wanker in all aspects of life anyway?

"Aids scum" probably isn't that bad, it's more the fact it's a f***ing brain-dead pathetic kind of thing to even think about let alone chant.

You'd have to be the lowest common denominator to gain amusement form that dribble.

My wife is a season ticket holder, and is a demure, ladylike creature. The shock on the faces of the Bermondsey monkeys was a joy to behold as she threw the 'You take it up the arse' jibes back at them! Not everyone is a wet lettuce.

Sent from Pippa Middleton's lingerie drawer.
