Hmmm? Don't you ever wonder why Brighton is the only place with a f***ing GREENS MP? It is the people there who are out of step with the rest of the country. Most people don't buy-in to the politicians' PC bollocks.
Really couldn't say it better than this. Racism, sexism, homophobia (always found it odd that it's a phobia rathen than an -ism), etc... is unacceptable (or swiftly becoming unacceptable amongst anyone with a brain) in general society, so in what way is it ok at a football match? Do we not want football to be something that everyone can enjoy? And I'm not saying sanitise it completely, there's always going to be swearing and the like to some level, but with family stands there are environments in a ground where even that is unacceptable and I'm fine with that. Whilst the parents and young kids around us seem fine with me telling the ref to f**k off, there's a place for them in the ground if they weren't.

There always has to be a first, few changes are sweeping most are incremental. When Labour started out they won just two seats at the 1900 election, now look at the party.

For your information, I am certainly not racist, and actively encourage my family not to be. Unlike Brighton and Hove, we have many races as part of our society, and interact with them every day. Some are good, others are not. Generally, it is their choice not to be liked - because they embrace the "gangsta culture" or suck like.
However, this is because I take everyone on their merit, and not just because someone tells me what I should think. "Danny Dyre wannabe"? those days have long passed
You take everyone on their merit, yet describe Brighton as a whole as "sick". Contradicted yourself a bit there mate.

Not at all. The comment was related to peoples race, as I was being accused of being racist. I have very strong views on other matters, which is my prerogative.
So, you do take everyone on their merit, or you don't? To describe all of Brighton as "sick" suggests you lump everyone in together. I'm not accusing you of being racist at all.

Get with the plot! The poster that I responded to had accused me of being racist. You are just sticking your nose in. Brighton is sick, but as I do not wish to be banned, I will leave my comments at that.
Shame you feel that way. Course it has it's rough areas - like all big cities - but I still f***ing love living there.

'Negro' is not a race. It is a term used for people wo are black, regardless of where they are from or their ancestry.
****** is not derived from Negro. Both are derived from the latin 'niger' (negro via spanish)
'Paki' since the 60s has been used as a derogatory term for people from various place in south asia, not just people from Pakistan.
These terms are primarily used in derogatory ways. They are used to demean and belitte entire races. The attitude wasn't "latin for black is niger, so I shall call you ******' it was "I'm not even giving you the respect of an identity, I am reducing you to a skin colour and I'm ignorant enough not to care to get the word right'. They are used to remind people they are not white and therefore not worth the same (particularly the fist two, the latter coming from british tabloids). They are used to remind people of the time when Whites ruled the world, days of colonialism and slavery.
Honkey or whitey don't offend? Of course not, it reinforces the same thing - whites as superior. These insults aimed at white people were meant as attempts to undermine the master, not to put an entire race below another.

I am always amazed that the usual suspects who comment ad nauseum on any thread to do with football related violence by calling people wimps or the like rarely have anything to say on threads to do with the team or players etc. Like many of the Millwall throw backs they are more interested in the confrontation that, unfortunately, surrounds football than the game itself.

I think I am like quite a lot of Seagull fans. After 45 years of work I now run my own business part time (medico-legal training anybody?) and have time to persue one of those retirment plans of seeing the Albion more often. Although I live near Oxford now I have seen all but 2 home games this season and have travelled to the Midllands away games plus Reading. I don't mind the away chanting during games mostly because I cannot hear in the north end of the Lower West Stand. What I do object to is the provocative, disgraceful and unlawful chanting in the queue for the train at Falmer. When you are in your 60s you are just to old for such foolish behaviour and just want to stand in the pen and perhaps discuss the game with those around you. I was near those Millwall supporters (so called) who started the homophobic chanting in the penned area on Tuesday. Clearly they wanted to get a reaction and probably start a fight. Around me where fans older than me and a number of parents with children. They were clearly worried about their safety and the police and stewards looked more worried than usual. My fear about Falmer station is of someone being pushed on to the track. Usually all goes well at the station - no problem with Leeds if I recall in fact had a good conversation with one of their supporters.
But on Tuesday I felt momentarily intimidated and pleased to get on a train and doubly pleased no Millwall fans joined my carriage. I was even more concerned for the children - our supporters of the future. We do not want them to get the feeling that the Amex is a dangerous place to go. The dog show at Brighton station was very nice but it was obvious which coppers came from London and which were local - and not just the uniform!
We do need the majority of sensible Millwall supporters (and Palace come to that) to step up to the mark and let their fellow fans know what is acceptable and what is not. Self policing is best at the end of the day. Sometimes the police wading in just makes matters worse. In the meantime not sure letting everybody out of the Amex at the same time is a good idea. Millwall have always had a justifiable reputation. I remember them smashing the Goldstone up in 1979 as a welcome to then 2nd Division. They got into the Directors' box and started assualting people dressed in surgeon's gowns stolen following drunken visits to the RSCH the night before.
The police know who the likely trouble making visitors are and my view is they be locked in the Amex for 30 mins following games then escorted to their coaches and special trains. They can chant as much as they like as only the sheep on the downs will hear.
The priority must always be the safety and security of home fans - away fans are always fickle visitors. I suspect the number of visiting fans will drop off next season as the Amex novelty wears off. That could free up more space for home fans.
My view is that soccer is one of the few past times that can bring whole communities together irrespective of class, disability, racial background or sexual orientation. We should all work together towards that goal. Not tolerating v erbal abuse of minorities is a pretty good place to start.
