Worst Pub in Brighton and Hove.

.....Sorry I had forgotten the worst pub by far in Brighton. J.W. Lennons, which used to be The Leconfield. A shit hole before it was made over, and continues to be afterwards.

Awful beer. Peanut shells on the floor. No atmosphere, didn't know what the "W" meant, and the landlord was fully up his own posterior.

Where's that?

I've come back home.
There's a few contenders. In no particular order:

1) The Branch Tavern
2) The Alibi
3) Red Lion
4) H Bar
5) Greenhouse Effect

Maybe I'm just picky, but those are stinkers.
Agree on all of those except the Alibi, thats a decent boozer. The spread eagle was absolutely 100% no questions asked the worst pub in the town. Now...the blue anchor?

There is a little boozer on the corner of a side street near the hairdressers with the dog and the piano at top of Kemptown/St Georges rd, can't recall the name but it hasn't been done up since the 1950's and caters solely for daytime alcys. Never been in but it looks ****ing awful.

Nibble. I think you mean The Crown. A fantastic place for an easy going pint in the afternoon, or after a long day shift. A right little gem of a place.

I stand corrected. I've only ever seen absolute **** ups outside it but have not ventured in so I defer to your knowledge on this one.

Is there any worse than the "Whistle Stop" on Boundary Road. £4.10 for a pint of Stella!! It's not as if i'm paying for the ambiance or the fit bird behind the jump to look at.

£4.10 in that Karzi......... I'm still shaking my head in disbelief

Drank in there a lot as a teenager and in my early twenties. But you're right it really is a toilet. As for paying 4.10 for a pint. Unbelievable.

The Lion and Lobster. While generally regarded as being one of Brighton's best pubs it is full of (unts.

Agreed far too crowded. Full of pretentious Pete Doherty/hipster types. Avoid like the plague.

can someone please tell me what is so great about the fishbowl?

Late license. It was always fun to plough into there when the pubs had slung out mid-week and chat up some uni students.

I was just about to say the Stadium, but on discussing this with work mates, apparently it has now been shut down completely.

Haven't drank in there for quite sometime (10 years and looks like I won't be now) always full of coke heads as I remember. It was like someone had it on speed dial from Bolivia.

The Neville, haven't been in there for about 8 years since my Dad took me to play pool one evening, always seemed to be a shit hole but he loved it.

suprised nobody has mentioned the seafield.

as for a post about the H bar, this dive has now been shut down, but re-opened as something else, which will no doubt attract the Hove mafia types for a few weeks until they are booted out for doing too much gear and not paying for there drinks and it shuts down and reopens as something else.

more of a bar and not a pub, but the square on Palmeria Sq, not sure how this place makes money, always dead and never known anyone to go in it, must be a cover for some other business.

Its only saving grace is that it is near The Haunt and a place to go pre bands. Its choice of ale is very poor and includes the not very good Brighton Laines beer. Does have a DJ though. Probably a six out of ten

All good calls there Munkington.

The Rat and Trumpet which has had many incarnations over the last decade or so. When I first lived on The Dials 15 years ago it was a worse place than it is now. Full of gamblers going back and forth to the Ladbrokes until they'd lost the kid's school shoe money. At one point it had a vending machine in the toilet one could buy porn videos from. Then they tried selling Pizza and showing films. I watched Ghost Rider on my own in there one night after a row with the girlfriend. Two hours in that ******** of a pub and I was back in our flat grovelling for forgivness.

The problem with that place everybody knows everybody. So if you're not a regular you just get stared at when you walk in. Just like one of those old westerns where the new guy in towns walks into the bar, the bar goes quiet and everybody is looking at him.

Not a fan of The Haunt. Most pretentious.

Those two chain pubs on George St have got to be in the running?

The Wetherspoons down the bottom. God Gawd. It is like God's waiting room in there. Have a friend that calls the old men in there "grippers" at they hold onto their pints for dear life and never seem to let them go.

I'm amazed only one person fleetingly mentioned The Seafield on New Church Road, walked in once and like a scene out of a Western, everybody stopped drinking stared at me and my mate which led to us walking straight back out. I thought I was the only one so I asked other people and similar stories were passed down.

Surprised The Alibi has been suggested on here, decent little boozer on a sunny day and has Stowford Press, 'nuff said.

I'm not sure if the Blind Busker counts as a pub but it has to be the most overrated place in Hove, I can't believe there aren't more 'sporty' places that serve decent grub and beer in Hove, especially along the main drag into Brighton.

Greenhouse effect is a dive but have fond memories as it was the only place that would serve us when we were underage.

Anyway, anyone ever been to The Bulldog.......
