Reading stabbings: Man motivated by 'religious jihad'

Saadallah arrived in the UK as an asylum seeker in 2012, having fled the civil war in his home country of Libya in North Africa.

The court heard the defendant, who had been refused asylum, had been involved with militias as part of the uprising against Muammar Gaddafi.

Between 2013 and 2020 he was repeatedly arrested and convicted of various offences in the UK.

While in HMP Bullingdon, Saadallah had associated with radical preacher Omar Brooks who is associated with banned terror group Al-Muhajiroun, the court heard. He was released from the prison in June, days before the attack.

Saadallah had been due to be deported, but was told by the government circumstances in Libya at the time were a "legal barrier".

Another Tory foul up.
Thank goodness immigrants like this one are in the vast, vast minority.

This is exactly the time we should be thinking about t hose less fortunate than us. A very small minority of immigrants are murdering people on the street. This is why understanding is important, so that myths and prejudices like yours can be dispelled.
I doubt you speak for the majority. I can guess the posters you do speak for though.
However, I am merely providing information, I cannot understand it for you. Read it or don't. Some people are happier not too. I can understand that and I can understand your feeling toward immigrants. Despite you being one yourself.

It's fine Syd. You don't have to read it. But please perhaps entertain the notion that not everyone who seeks refugee status is a blood thirsty Syrian warlord with a cutlass between his teeth, Hell bent on defiling our women and slaughtering people on the street. You're an immigrant and I doubt this description fits you.

It's there if you wish to read it. Nay bother if you don't. It's not required reading. And neither is this thread.

And yet it is without doubt white westerners who have caused more death and suffering than any other race in history. Funny ol' world.

Isle of Wight oil tanker 'hijacking' case dropped against seven men

Seven men, including two who had already been charged, will face no action over a suspected hijacking of an oil tanker off the Isle of Wight.

Special forces stormed the Nave Andromeda on 25 October after the crew raised concerns about stowaways.

Matthew Okorie, 25, and Sunday Sylvester, 22, had been charged with conduct endangering ships.

But prosecutors dropped their case after evidence analysis "cast doubt" on whether the tanker was put in danger.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said initial reports had indicated there was a "real and imminent threat" to the vessel, but added mobile phone footage and witness accounts "could not show that the ship or crew were threatened" and there was no evidence the men had any intention to seize control of the vessel.

The CPS said the new evidence meant the "legal test" for the offence was "no longer met".

"Our case was that the actions of the men were responsible for the endangerment of the vessel, but further material was then supplied by a maritime expert which significantly undermined whether there was a threat of danger," prosecutors said in a statement.

The Home Office said it was "disappointed" by the CPS's decision and added it was working with prosecutors to "urgently resolve the issues raised by this case".

A spokesman said: "It is frustrating that there will be no prosecution in relation to this very serious incident and the British people will struggle to understand how this can be the case."

Hampshire Constabulary said the five other men, who were arrested on suspicion of seizing or exercising control of a ship by use of threats or force, also face no police action.

They will remain detained under immigration regulations and are now seeking asylum.
