So two fit defenders for Saturday? Very clever.

Great idea, a manager so good he has been on the dole for the last FOUR years.

With intelligence such as yours, why aren't you running the country?

Exactly ..... Curbishley ffs !!!! leave Gus alone.

However in the context of the broader picture we are moving forwards every month, every season.

That's the thing. No we're not moving forward. Someone posted some stats today showing we're on just about exactly the same points as this time last season. And that's after Gus had apparently "strengthened" the squad. Looks a lot like stagnation to me.

I like that spending more than two years in the same division is being stagnant. Rochdale spent 35 years in Division 4/3/League 2. That is stagnation.

No we're not. That's my point, dicker and crofts moving into midfield in place of hammond and bridcutt is not them playing out of position. Bridcutt started at full back, and Hammond is a defensive minded player. Players who have shown an ability to perform at this level (generally speaking), under pressure, who can fill a need.

Perhaps the DS defenders aren't good enough yet, or perhaps there is a fear that putting them in in such circumstances could do more harm than good. Perhaps some people just aren't sure which ones play in which position so avoid suggesting them for fear of embarrassing themselves.

The suggestion of Hammond and Bridcutt in defence is merely one highlighting the flexibility of our squad to deal with an extreme circumstance of so many injuries in one area of the field, in response to the idea that we should have had a third player for each position, just in case.
I understand what you are saying however I just feel that we are robbing Peter to pay Paul and shuffling the pack just for the sake of keeping our First Team Squad together.

It worked last season when we had to bring in Cook against Southampton and Hall off the bench. At least put younger players on the bench at what stage are they old / good enough. I hate to say it but you have to admire Palace for giving youth a chance something we tend not to do.

My original point was just that Gus should have ensured he had some sort of defensive cover on the bench instead of moving midfielders into positions that aren't there best.

According to our manager they were both going to be fit for Palace, so let's hope that the current "good chance" means more than last week's "good chance".

Any manager worth his salt is going to say his best players will be available even when they're not otherwise it gives the opposition an idea of what the line up will be.

The youth had their chance to show Gus what they could do last night, and shipped 4 goals.

That's such an easy statement to make, even if they DS had kept a clean sheet Gus wouldn't have drafted one in that was highlighted on Saturday.

Using your analogy with Bridcutt at left back we shipped 3 goals so why play him out of position.

I don't think Gus had much to do with this. It was probably the fact the Spurs offered him a much better deal then Brighton could and the fact is he would have only played slightly more regularly than he does at Spurs, if at all.

This! Hall was being an absolute dickhead about the whole thing!!!

Looks like only Greer and Calderon.

Bruno apparently has a problem with his ribs.
Dunk - three match ban.
ElAbd - injured.
Bridge - injured.
Painter - injured.

Good idea to let Elphick go, Gus?
Good idea to let Hall go, Gus?
Good idea to let Cook go, Gus?
Good idea to let Vincelot go on loan, Gus? A midfielder who can comfortably play central defence or full-back.

Add to that to his failure to fight to keep Murray, his persistence with Barnes, his reluctance to play two strikers, his refusal to consider a Plan B when tippy-tappy isn't working, and I'm seriously doubting whether Gus is the guy who can take us any further.

Thanks for what you've done so far, Gus, and goodbye.

Someone on another post suggested Curbishley. Maybe.
are you for real? possibly the most mornic post I've seen since....last Saturday.

Yeah and while we are at it why didn't we keep Guy Butters or Ian Chapman or Steve Foster too in case they were needed one day.....

God there have been some real muppets on here lately.

This is my point we are further looking at playing players out of position, if the midfield ain't broke why fix it. There must be an alternative in the Developement Squad or is selection based on a pecking order.

Based on ability, the question for Gus would be is an experienced midfielder who has played in defense in their career a better choice than a development squad player who is yet to play a league game?

As it is a result driven business, i would expect that he would choose the experienced midfielder(s) over a development squad player but you never know.

Since when does good chance = guaranteed fit and available?

There could be a good chance but after a late fitness test it is decided they arn't quite ready and it would be an unnecessary risk to play them and risk further time out if they aggravate their existing injury. If they did get worse, then those complaining now about their non inclusion would likely to be the same ones complaining that they shouldn't have been playing in the first place if they did get injured during a game.

All of the negativity being aimed towards Poyet is absolutely ridiculous. Yes he has made mistakes, he will make more mistakes but seeing as how we are where we are today compared to when he arrived I'll accept those mistakes. It will require funds to take us further & a little bit of luck. This is not an overnight success project it is a 5 year forecast kind of project & anyone who thinks we are not improving at a pace that is sustainable & forward moving needs to get a grip on reality.

There.....rant over.

According to Football Rumours, yes I know that site is shite, we are looking at another Spanish fukll back who is unattached. This seems the local short term solution a month by month contract to see how good he is.

My prediction of the back four for Saturday if all that are mentioned are injured from right to left Calderon Greer Hammond Tarrico.

So someone doesn't agree with your view of how things are progressing and they are subjected to all that abuse. Classy.

You say "However in the context of the broader picture we are moving forwards every month, every season." That is your opinion. Not everybody agrees with it so when we have a big defeat they vent their frustrations.

Please explain your justification that we are progressing.

Sorry mate. If you really can't see that that is one of the most sensible posts on here for a while, maybe you should read it again. You might get a mention.

I've read it once, understood it completely because it was in English and not beyond my comprehension. So I don't need to read it again. Sorry mate.

Maybe you should read my post again where I asked for an explanation of his opinion or do I need to trade insults for you to understand it?

Do you want to answer for him?
