My point is this phrase

We are working overtime," McGhee said. "We are trying to do it before the deadline. It has concerned me a wee bit that we haven't done it well enough.

You seem to imply that it is lack of effort.

I never said it was a lack of effort... I, like you, do not know why we have failed to sign the players we need... probably offering too little in terms of wages (despite huge transfer fees received)... but ouir club consistently takes too long to identify and sign players (do we have a good scouting network?)...

We have a sub-standard (and injured) lb... extremely limited cover in cd (what happens if Big Guy and/or McShane get suspended or injured?), and lack creativity in central midfield (when was the last time we had a good creative central midfielder?)...

The situation is not good, the manager recognises the problem... why not you (even with your now infamous rose-tinted glasses)?...

I agree the situation is not good but what can be done about it?

Have you got any answers or solutions?

It is difficult to attract players on the wages we offer and our geographical location.
As McGhee says 'we have been working overtime'
That doesn't imply being slow but that players dont want to come on our terms or managers dont want to let them go (ie Blayney)

You are making assumptions re our wage structure... if we aimed at the correct level of player, we would be able to tempt them to our club...

My assumptions are made on a bit of knowledge (which as they say is dangerous ) :lolol:

To repeat... we should aim for the correct players... maybe league 1 or lower, SPL, or foreign a la Carole, etc... failing that, go for loans...

BTW, geography shouldn't be a problem... may I suggest living in or around Brighton is more appealing to most sane individuals than most other football towns... now who's being optimistic?... :)

As opposed to somewhere like say, Stoke or Sunderland.

Geography is a massive problem as we are so far from other places.

Say for instance you play for Sheff Utd.
Two clubs are after you, Stoke or Brighton

You could go to Stoke and not even have to sell your house.

Clubs are around the Midlands/North are all within 90 mins drive of each other.

... which means we have more limited options to bring players in after the window closes... I am well aware of the loan loop-hole, thank you, LI...

To repeat, we have been TOO SLOW in the transfer market... MM recognises this, why not Yorkie and your good self?...

To reduce McGhee's quote to us being "too slow" is grossly simplistic. It really doesn't help us understand the contraints he's under to come out with stuff like that.

Fair point that the game has changed, but even Chelski play a core team, week in, week out, injuries-permitting...

And so do we.

Everyone recognises the problem, it's just the naivety in thinking these things can be sorted out either quickly or just by a bit more will-power from the manager that some of us do not share :)

Over-paying for limited players also remains a problem. And as for the health or otherwise of our scouting network, you must be balanced, McShane and Carole are not bad examples of that, are they?

nail on the head! you cant take the club to task for players not wanting to come here. playing at withdean must be as attractive as stuffing wasps up your arse to someone who has been playing in front of 20,000 plus.......with proper changing rooms!!!:nono:

I take it you've never been to Stoke? :jester:

Yes :lolol:

I was trying to think of a team within 40 miles of Sheffield in the same division.
Ok Crewe then (nearly as bad) or Leeds or Leicester.

Well, I have my opinion, you have yours... MM recognises his failure to get players on-board in a reasonable time-frame... you seem incapable of accepting this... it is not my job to help you or anyone else on here understand the constraints MM is operating under (thankfully)... we need players, we have failed to sign them quickly enough... end of story...

OK, some people here are happy not to understand these things, others want to. I fall into the latter category.

Not at the moment...

Eight players have started all our 5 league games thus far.

I suggest you re-read MM's comments about our failings in getting players in... then come back with something more meaningfull than comments implying I am naive... as usual, you resort to snide comments... I have not mentioned anything about manager will-power... is that your suggested solution, LI?...

As for McShane and Carole... are either of these players here because of our scouting network?... poor examples...

Why so? How did they get here then :lolol: CKR is another good example of our scouting network, El Turi too.

You are assuming we should only be targeting players from clubs with big stadiums, which is wrong...

Also, Withdean's poor facilities are not anything to do with the earlier posts...
