You are assuming we should only be targeting players from clubs with big stadiums, which is wrong...

Also, Withdean's poor facilities are not anything to do with the earlier posts...

They are another factor to be taken into consideration.
High house prices/rents as well.

OK, some people here are happy not to understand these things, others want to. I fall into the latter category.

And you don't think I undertsand the constraints?... I recognise them, and have made a suggestion on how to overcome them... which is more than you have done....

Your signature is quite simplistic BW. The cheque book is the answer?

Oh dear - is this the best you can come up with to back up your argument that we don't have a settled core group of players? :)

Why so? How did they get here then :lolol: CKR is another good example of our scouting network, El Turi too.

Really... your definition of scouting is strange...

McShane - presumably here because of MM's association with Fergie (or did our non-existent Head Scout find him?)... I'm sure you know...

Carole - trialist...

CKR - recommended by 'scout' Dick Knight...

El Turi - pushed by an Argentinian agent...

Don't make a fool of yourself, LI... Steve Coppell used to maon about our poor scouting, and nothing has changed since then...

Agreed... and why do you think house prices are high down here?...

As for Withdean's poor facilities... I don't want players here who only care about the size of our stadium... here are some plus points...

Great place to live
We are in the Championship
We have a great manager
we have a good Chairman
We have fantastic supporters
We are not the worst payers in the football league (despite what many think)
We are on a more sound financial footing than many clubs
Etc.

I can't see too much positive in what you've posted.

You've said we should be offering more of the Virgo/Harding money for players. The problem with that is that money is very finite and can't be wasted on players who McGhee isn't pretty sure about.

You've criticised our scouting network. Who knows, you might be right, it might not be good enough, but we're in a near-impossible position to judge that. At the very least you should accept what successes that network has produced.

You've stated that we should be looking at players who currently also play in poorer stadiums, ie. the lower league clubs. I would suspect very strongly that McGhee is already doing this, but the problem being that any of these type clubs would have these players playing in their first team already if they were instant Championship standard and would want a huge amount of money for them.

My bet would be that we may get more joy from the big-stadium clubs who will have Championship-standard players but who may have them languishing on the sidelines, the Knight-Nicolas type players.

We don't have a scout. Steve Coppell's deceased brother used to scout for us.

You love an argument don't you BW?

Unfortunately, for many players, yes... you are being simplistic if you think otherwise... :)

PS. Thank you for taking the time to read my out-of-date signature... one day, when I can be bothered, I will update it...

No, I just wanted to take the opportunity to expose your sad knowledge of our playing statistics... how many of those 8 always played in the same position?...

But how did McGhee find about McShane in the first place. Did Fergie ring him up do you think? :lolol: How did we find out about Carole to get him in on trial? How did we find out about an Argentinian player being marketed in Italy? Dick Knight I think accidently discovered Reid in a reserve game, not sure about CKR :)

Simplistic enough to think that there are bills to be paid with that cheque book.
Clubs that have assetts are spending millions on players in this league. We cannot compete with that.

Now that last point makes a lot of sense to me... although I wouldn't rule out looking down the league as well as for out-of-favour Champ / Prem players... there are some nuggets out there that can be acquired for relatively little money, e.g. Nugent of PNE...

Most of them, Reid had to switch because of injury, and Knight and Hammond have been moved in an attempt to address the midfield creativity problem, a problem you constantly whinge about, and now you whinge about the way McGhee tries to address it? :)

And even SC's brother was unofficial... in our current financial position, there is even more reason to have a chief scout in place, IMHO... do we really need, for example, a director of footie?...

Yes, I am enjoying our discussions, and the ones with LI, today... :)

We have a director of football already.

MM has a lot of contacts in football. We cannot compete with English player's wages (Argus sometime last week) and that is why we have been looking abroad at French players.

But who would Ernest have to hail as our saviour otherwise :clap2: :clap2:

I think the director of footie has earnt his pay with the young players over the past few seasons :)
