Or you could try and have a PROPER debate instead of resulting to childish insults and jibes...;)

The point I was making, as you are quite aware, is that by appearing to try and sign players out of our league/budget the club can appear to be looking to spend money etc without actually having to.

Failure to make decent signings in the positions we need can then be explained away by the old excuses of Withdean, the money going on Falmer etc.

Father Jack, McShane was spotted in a reserve game and then we approached ManU.

As for 'Arry recommending Carole, I would like to know whether that's true or not - given the very severe difficulty McGhee had in getting hold of to speak to him about about Blayney :)

I'd love to debate sensibly Richie, as soon as I figure out what this paragraph means :) If anyone can help......

Simply.

The board want to look as if they are trying to sign players so they purposefully go for players that are obviously too good for us. A perfect example is Sam Parkin. We are in NO position to compete for his signiature with Ipswich. So, what is the point?

The point is that the club then look to the fans that they are desperately trying to get quality players in. This keeps the fans off their back.

When the fans question why we are not signing players the same old excuses about having limited resources etc are put out.

The simple fact is that we COULD try and buy players within our budget but this would involved either a)spending money or b) having decent scouts etc.

It is similar to when Spurs are linked to top players throughout the summer, season ticket sales go well and the club fail to sign the players.

A rather elaborate conspiracy theory that might be swallowed by those like you feeling a bit grumpy towards the club at the moment, Richie.

The more rational explanation was that our enquiry of Parkin pre-dated that of Ipswich's involvement and McGhee would have been grossly derelict in his duty not to check out the availablity of this talented player.

BW was being slated?
By whom>

It was a discussion. At no time was BW being SLATED (seeing as you so fond of emphasising words with capitals, Richie)

To suggest that this club went after Parkin to appease the fans is ludicrous. Also, Tottenham have used this ploy in the past, but no more than Newcastle (Rooney), Everton (Owen), Man Utd (Ballack).

In this division we come up with the problem of wages. McGhee is right to try and buy players from abroad because they are on lower wages, so we can compete. Unfortunately, this club is not geared up to source decent French players.

What a ridiculous thread.

Maybe we don't have a chief scout as such, but as we have about 17 members of coaching staff I am sure they can do the job between them.

Personally, I find this thread very interesting... the good news is that many are coming up with ways that the club could have acquired the players they required from the start of the close season (even LI)...

The bottom-line is that the club have so far failed to sign a lb, second cd and creative midfielder and, as RM says, MM has admitted that the club has not got things right in this area...

Let's hope the next 2 days are more productive...

PS. Thank you for backing me up RM... we are not all club sycophants... our club does make some mistakes... it's nice to see some of us can manage idependent thoughts...
