Thought Chippy and Oatway were fine but started to struggle 20 minutes into the second half which was picked up upon and exagerated by some people.

Whilst the subsitutuions worked against us (Crewe good, us bad), I also felt Henderson unsettled the defence a little as Crewew fired in a couple of crosses which were not dealt with. They spotted this weakness and exposed us.

The disapointment of crusing 1-0 to going 2-1 down and is hard to take, although I wouldn't completly blame McGhee, it's not easy to say but you've got to give Crewe some credit - despite playing shit, they saw a weakness, exposed us and almost won the game - something we've done many a time over the past 2 seasons.

Positives - good passing again, new winger looks decent, Leon's back on his game and Hammond continues to impress (although I don't believe he's quite good enough yet to play a central role).

I agree L.I but we were at home today and need to push home the advantage. We need to be playing to win more home games with a formaton that gives us a chance. Not many teams only play with one up front at home? Whats next from MM no strikers at all away from home?

Chelsea? Knight and Carole were supporting..

Crewe play 5-2-3, we chose to pack the midfield, 5 against 2, and dominate. It worked very well for 70 odd minutes.

Whilst it may not relate to today's game, in context, Steve Coppell's comments in the programme are intresting:

"The two Brighton players tonight that really caught my eye were the two stalwarts, Chippie and Charlie in midfield. I think that I've got a good midfield combination at Reading, but the two of them matched them for 90 minutes."

Out of their depth? You're having a laugh..

On NSC for over two decades...
70 minutes of domination were upset by a slightly defensive substitution.

Crewe's first looked like a bit of a freak, but their second was well worked.

Plus points are that the Albion's passing game is clearly coming on. Carole looked good, Knight scored from open play at long last, and the Albion actually had the bollocks to pick themselves back up after going behind.

why weren't we given half the away stand?

It will be worrying if we were. :(

the crewe fans could've easily fitted into half of that stand

surely we could've sold those tickets?

doubt it

I think it's simply a technical thing with the proposed changes to the ground - they have changed the entrances so it's not possible to admit Brighton fans fron "our" side anymore.

Henderson - Not convincing, stayed rooted to his line a few times and his distribution is poor at times.

Dodd - Vast improvement from Tuesday, liked the celebration when muppet linesman got a decision correct for once.

Reid - Played well left back

McShane - Another excellent match only real mistake led to Crewe's second. Very comfortable on the ball, was provider for Leon's goal.

Butters - Steady and dependable as usual.

Carole - Fitted in very well, showed good touches and very comfortable on the ball.

Carpenter - Played better than Tuesday but was again caught in possession or making square passes.

Oatway - Battled well as always but let down by his final ball at times.

Hammond - Did well down the left and deserved his goal, don't think we'll see him in the centre until MM has got a few extra players for the left hand side.

Knight - Played well in the deep lying roll, linking up effectively with CKR and Carole.

Kazim-Richards - Did a lot of harrying and closing down today and thought we lost a bit of that when he went off.

Turienzo - A bit anonymous today though he didn't exactly get much service.

Niclas - Not greatly impressed with his contribution.

Robinson - Did enough in 5 minutes to help salvage a draw. Still think the bulk of his contributions this season will be from the subs bench during the second half. Of the games he started he hasn't really made much impact. However, put him on against a tiring defence in the second half and he has the ability to turn a game.

Thought MM made an error with the substitions today particular Niclas for Carole, and for the second time in a week the opposition score soon after our readjustments. All the time we harried Crewe at the back and midfield they were unable to play their passing game, however, once CKR went off then Carole, we let them dictate the game. At least we came back.

henderson - 7: looked fine to me apart from some of his yelldell-esque kicking. couldn't do much about the goals.

dodd - 7: from what i heard about his performance on tuesday he did a lot better today. some great tackles and few mistakes.

mcshane - 9 (MoM): terrific young defender who worked hard and won the ball in the air. nearly scored from a header which wouldn't have counted anyway. looks the perfect keystone to balance our defence.

butters - 7: typical butters, very reliable and no mistakes.

reid - 8: linked the play up very well and was great going forward. he is a very important player for us.

carole - 8: looked like an extremely exciting player for us and will terrorise many defences in the league this year.

oatway - 6: was ok at times but some terrible crosses and bad passes let us down.

carpenter - 6: knew he had a bad game, his frustration showed. bad passing today. hopefully the carpenter of old will return soon.

hammond - 8: operated well in the position he occupied and played as he usually does - very well! nice finish for the equaliser

knight - 8: like hammond, operated well in his position and also took his goal well, even though a few yards out!

CKR - 7: held the ball up well but struggled to really make an impact. was hard for him when he had little support and he tried his best again.

Subs:

nicolas - 7: worked hard to get the ball back as usual and should've scored a winner. deserves a starting place soon in my opinion.

turienzo - 6: didn't have a great touch but got into some good positions. tried to be too skillful at times and it was a gamble that didn't pay off in bringing him on.

jake: had little time to make a real impact.

deserved the win, but ultimately pleased we didn't lose so satisfied with a point.

Just recall his performance at Coventry last year when he looked awfuly flat footed and poorly positioned.

I think Chippy and Charlie cover more ground in the middle and obviously are very expirienced at it.

With Dean on the left he can get forward and can get first team expirience. Clearly he'll end he's a central midfielder and will end up their but at the moment, the left wing slot is allowing him a bit more freedom to do his thing rather than all the dirty work in the center of the park.

All fair comment Turkey.

With McCammon out of the picture, people need some simple answers to explain why we don't win games. They don't come more simpler than picking on two players who helped us dominate the midfield battle for 80 per cent of the game :)

Too much of a "with due respect to Crewe, we should be beating sides like them" mentality, really.

McGhee I tought was fairly upbeat in his interviews after the game today - he knows the team did generally well, but he will obviously be looking closely at the defensive effort near the end.
