Thought Carpenter did not have a good game by his own standards. Hopefully will regain usual form rather than be dropped.

Robinson does not need whole game yet as players he could replace are better at present, but 15 minutes off the bench when we are not losing would be good to see - might work, might not but 7 minutes when 1 a goal down is unlikely to bring the best out of him.

CKR seems to be trying too hard but is a real talent and needs a bit more time.

Turienzo looked sharp on Tuesday but felt control today was not as good as I'd expected.

Overall a really promising team which needs a bit more time to blend. Half the team arrived in close season and most of them near the end of it.

Henderson - 6 I'm still not convinced

Dodd - 8 Loved the celebrations when the linesman got it right (occasionally)

Mcshane - 9 (MoM) Brilliant

Butters - 7: typical butters, very reliable and no mistakes.

Reid - 8: Is there anywhere he can't play? Love him

Carole - 8: looked like an extremely exciting player for us and will terrorise many defences in the league this year.

Oatway - 7 I thought he had a solid game

Carpenter - 6 Not one of his better days

Hammond - 8 Valuable and goes for goal like a sniffer dog.

Knight - 8 Good to see him scoring but wish he would move off the ball to help out more

CKR - 7: held the ball up well but struggled to really make an impact

I think CKR needs a rest. It can't be easy stepping up to first team football and being put under pressure so early.
Apart from Chippy and the goalkeeper I couldn't fault anyone today.

I agree about CKR, but Henderson was not at fault for either of the goals, other than that he did not have anything to do !!

I thought we were very good in the first half. We managed to dominate possession and put some nice moves together. Where it did fall down a bit was the fact we seemed unable to get anyone in the box meaning we could rarely find feet in their penalty box and as a result we didn’t create the chances our possession merited.

Second half, I thought we lost our way, in a similar way maybe to against QPR at Withdean last year. We didn’t seem able to maintain any kind of possession, as a Crewe side that looked poor in the first half stepped up their game. That said, at least we fought back to get a point and could even have got a third goal at the death.

It was my first game of the season and I was very impressed with McShane. I always worry when a centre back gets booked earlier on, but he handled it very well and in the first half when he needed to make an important challenge he did it perfectly. I thought Carole looked bright and should prove a good addition, but I did think he was a little over intricate a times, but there looks a good player for McGhee to help improve further.

I didn’t really understand much of the officiating though. The linesman in front of the south stand seemed to think the throw in goes to the team that the ball hit last. The referee missed quite a lot of shirt pulling in the first half and second half gave a succession of weak free kicks to Crewe. Also, what was the angry shout of ‘COME HERE’ by the referee directed at McShane about?!
