Of course Leon's attitude could have been better. I do not think there is anyone on here who would suggest otherwise.

All I am saying is he was made into a scapegoat by McGhee (see Kuipers, McCammon, Reid et al) and that we would be better off with someone of his talent in the squad.

Kuipers McCammon, Reid et al?

Richie's viewpoint is so jaundiced against McGhee it's laughable and quite sad imo.

McGhee is far from perfect but so are the conditions he works in and club he manages. I maintain that there is not a manager who would have stayed as long as he has and done a better job. Yes there are better managers but why would thay want to come here? There has to be a balance

Well his stobborness has got us so far hasnt it?

Well it got us into the Championship and kept us there for a season, which is more than 18 or 19 other League One managers have done, so it's really not that shabby is it? Unless of course you were expecting a promotion season this year, in which case I agree he has f***ed up royally

But do you not think the squad he had in about September had enough in it to stay up?

Surely this season we should have at least been consolidating on last seasons achievements.

It was a possibilty and yes it would have been good if he had. Taking into account the players he had to sell and the inability to secure a GNW earlier, it depends on whether you blame him or DK for that, if blame is the right word. Circumstances have not favoured us this season for whatever reason. I think McGhee takes some of the blame but relegation was always a very real possibilty and would have been whoever had been in charge. It's not like anyone can be amazed that we are were we are after all.

To dump the blame 100% on McGhee is unrealistic and unfair imo.

The sales (other than Knight) have not happened during the season.

He had money in the summer for strikers and to be honest the ones he purchased have not worked out. But after the way we played at Elland Road, it seemed we had enough to stay up, but spats and not knowing his best side have cost us, so the blame has to lie with the manager, he picks the team and tactics and his decisions have not worked.

Should he stay, which I believe he has earned the right to do, next season will be the proof, one way or the otjer. can i get back to you in October??:)

You can, but as I said on a previous thread, even if he suceeds next season he will get no credit from me. Too much damage has been done.

But each to their own.

Even if we walk the division??

Could you not forgive him, UB, if we battled and gained promotion again? Not that I think he needs to be forgiven anything.

Do you honestly believe in your heart of hearts, that we could have progressed from last season despite losing key players and only able to replace them with players untested at this level?

I see absolutely no reasoning in this. Please explain

I never thought he was the correct appointment. More should have been done to keep Coppell, but the club wanted (or needed) the compensation money. Dowie was the best of the candidates interviewed, but Knight went with experience.

McGhee, to me, is a lucky manager, rather than a good manager. The Swindon play off games showed this and last season we got away with it. He could get things tactically spot on such as West Ham away and then completely bugger things up, such as Plymouth away. It has been this tinkering that has been so frustrating, that coupled with often shoe horning his favourite players into the side, opposed to picking players in their best position.

His transfer dealings have been hit and miss. Frutos and Carole have nice touches but have not been overly effective and some of the forwards he has signed have been nothing short of disastorous.

He has fallen out with players, that is fair enough, it happens, Coppell did not rate Virgo, but to then drag some of the issues into the press is not good, it should be kept behind closed doors. Also some of his changing assessments of players is bizare. At the beginning of the season praising Mayo as a competant left back, good enough for this league, then turning round a few months later and saying he is not the player they need, again fair enough, but not in the press. Also his changing assessment of Turienzo was bizarre.
