Of course I do, anyone that wants to put themselves up as a paragon of virtue rightly deserves to be struck down if they turn out to be a disingenuous shysters creating unnecessary carnage for the wider general public.

Emma Smart is not the only disingenuous shyster that has caused unnecessary carnage this week.

Talking the talk is easy, this website is a case in point choc full of talking heads, those that walk the walk is much much rarer.

Love some of the articles from Non-Dom papers, it took 3 of them to write this one...

Whatever, the fact is with her back story of travelling the world in a 4x4 for circa 3 years, actively participating in protests that prevent people driving around in the U.K. is some f***ing nerve.

If insulate Britain had any sense she would have not got near the press.

School boy.

In conclusion, what you seem to be saying is, if you do something and then realise that it's wrong or bad, you can't then tell people that you now know it's bad.

Surely that's 'walking the walk' and not just 'talking the talk'?

In what way are people driving to work or driving for work purposes wrong or bad?

This is the lunacy of the IB strategy and their supporters…..hatstand mentalists.

Whatever we may feel about the madness or otherwise of Insulate Britain protesters, their actions have generated a fair amount of air-time/general media coverage in which to draw attention to the targets of their action..... I don't think they intended/expected their strategy to be generally 'popular' so much as 'extreme' to match the extreme urgency for action on the current change threat....

Insulate Britain lists two main aims on its website:

The government should fund the insulation of all social housing by 2025
A "legally-binding national plan" for a low energy and low carbon retrofit of all homes in Britain by 2030
Low energy homes use considerably less energy and use renewable energy for heating and electricity.

In June, the UK Committee on Climate Change said there had been "minimal progress" in recent years on improving the insulation of buildings or in switching to low-carbon heating.

Like many others, I think their tactics are sometimes unnecessarily extreme, but only right wing climate deniers focus exclusively of the madness of their behaviour without giving at least a mention of the madness that they are protesting against...

Having the a 4x4 gas guzzling globetrotter shilling the climate change crisis mantra makes a mockery of IB and their commitment to their objectives, it’s like Adolf Hitler moaning about his gas bill.

Ridiculous.

that plan, by their own accompanying document, is expected to cost at least £360bn. It would also require a substantial amount of the workforce (half million) dedicated to it. This is not a realistic commitment to make. they should scale back the demands and might get somewhere.

In my opinion this is a sensible response because it suggests realistic positive outcomes (for us all) instead of just pointlessly carping about a few arguably hypocritical IB members (a typical tabloid personalisation of the matter); virtually every organisation has some phoneys and I hope most people can agree that however bad the strategy is, the principle makes good sense and there should be some positive commitments, scaled back or otherwise.

This individual you could argue engages in hypocrisy, but frankly that sideshow isn't really important, lazy tabloid hack stuff

We have some of the most leaky housing stock in Europe and there needs to be more incentives from the government to get things up to standard, its saves money, it stops people from freezing to death and it reduces energy demand (and as we transition electric boy we are going to need to do this or the grid will collapse)

Aside of insulation we need more assistance for renewables, its crazy there is 4 times more VAT on solar panels than coal. We also need to look other less cyclical forms of energy like green gas from grass and tidal energy. We are gifted in this country and could become energy independent pretty fast

Britain started the industrial revolution, no reason at all why we can't spearhead the green revolution

In fairness though, taking the “biggest bunch of tossers in the country” award, away from the Lib Dem revokers, the northern rape gangs and the anti vax lunatics is quite an achievement.

Agree with this post…. It’s a lot more thoughtful and constructive than vacuous tabloid outrage….

I am not arguing that she is a hypocrite, she is a hypocrite. As we know (if exposed) hypocrisy eats away at the purity of a position. If (by way of illustration) someone claims to be a victim of racism, but then is exposed to be a racist themselves people can rightly conclude that they are a hypocrite, and their views are not worth a light.

Your entitled to take the ends justify the means view, however if our global 4x4 travelling eco warrior (and friends) want this country to spend it taxes in different ways, then we have a democratic system to deliver that.

If they want to make a protest about their concerns they can do that lawfully, without impeding the general public from going about their lawful business. The comments from the mirror (hardly the Mail) on this hypocrite would be a reasonable measure of the man on the Clapham omnibus.

Sorry to say hypocrisy exists in every sizeable political group.

The ends do not always justify the means but at least we should note that IB 'are in line with consensus among climate scientists and policy experts that home insulation—including when retrofitted—is an environmental priority, saves money to occupants and is beneficial to the economy' - instead of just registering outrage at the protesters' methods.

If people support the cause but reject the method, why not start your own protest? Gotta be more positive than coming on here and becoming hysterical because someone who looks a bit different to you is acting on their convictions, no?

If governments and corporations are allowed to continue as they currently are, your kids and grandkids will think you pretty pathetic for getting upset about a traffic delay on the M25.

I think people like Fergus are comfortable explaining to their grandkids in the future why they did nothing to help with the climate emergency, carried on contributing to the problem just as long as no-one could accuse them of being a hypocrite

So people trying to save the planet are lunatics.

They are asking for too much and should try peaceful protests rather than disrupt people meanwhile not enough is actually being done to address the issues.

Time to wake up , homes aren't insulated well enough, fuel bills are rocketing so the old and poor will end up colder and in extreme cases will die and yes Climate Change is progressing rapidly so rapid correction action is required.
