[Football] If Palace can't play in the Europa League

From Kaveh Solhekol (Sky Sports):

"Textor has diluted his shares in Eagle Football and now owns about 55 per cent. Eagle Football owns 43 per cent of Palace and Textor personally has a stake which is now less than 30 per cent in Palace."

Seems unclear as to whether this has been done retrospectively as a last-ditch attempt to appease UEFA in the last week or so, I'd assume so...?
That can’t be right. You can’t just multiply percentages until you have a figure you like!

My Palace mate says the odds of all this happening before 1st March were calculated at 400/1, and so it’s unfair to blame Parish etc for not seeing it.

Pretty sure Bloom would have done though.
Tin helmet on for not reading through all the posts, but this is an issue I cant get clear in my tiny brain. The UEFA 1st of March deadline.

In JUNE 2023, according to Companies House records, Tony Bloom gave up his shares, or 75% of them, and resigned as a director of Langford Holdings that owns Union Saint Gilloise. UEFA ratified this in early JULY of that year. The media reports I have read suggest that all of this happened AFTER the Albion had qualified for the Europa League.

So, did Tony Bloom submit a binding commitment to undertake his intentions before the 1st March 2023, or was he given some leeway. If the latter, then Textor has a precedent to hang his hat on and buy some time for his lawyers.

In my view, and as others have suggested, Crystal Palace pleading the case that Textor has no significant influence within the club is not sufficient. If it was, I'm sure Tony Bloom would have relied on this self declaration rather than taking the outwardly transparent measures he was advised to take.

In conclusion, Textor must do the same as Tony Bloom did. If not, then thin ice.

Blimey. I'm cream crackered!!

Still of the opinion that Palace will take their place in Europe next year. If I understand things correctly, they will need investment to bolster their squad. With Textor involved, to whatever extent, their fans are right to be worried about that unless he steps away.

The rules (the 1st march part) were not the same in July 2023, as they are now.

Completely bias? Name one of his following justifications for Palace's inclusion that is not applicable to the charge of missing the 1st March deadline?

1. Not done on purpose.
2. Simple, administrative, technical error.
3. Palace can fix it as soon as possible.
4. Palace will do whatever UEFA requires to solve the problem.
5. Textor and Parish made a very compelling case to UEFA in last Tuesday's meeting as to why Palace should play in next season's Europa League.
6. EVERYONE in football knows that Parish runs Palace, not Textor.
7. Palace EARNED their place in the Europa Cup by beating Man City in THRILLING fashion.
8. Palace are absolutely not part of a multi-club ownership group.
9. Palace are an INDEPENDENT south London club.
10. They don't share any resources or staff with Lyon.
11. John Textor couldn't have foreseen this happening.
12. John Textor is actually trying to sell his shares in Palace.
13. Chrystal Palace fans WON'T TAKE IT LYING DOWN if they are thrown out of the Europa League in what would be an absolutely outrageous decision.
14. Palace fans and players have done nothing wrong.
15. If Real Madrid or other bigs clubs made this 'technical error' they'd be allowed to play in the competition.
16. Palace have a very good chance of actually winning the Europa League.
17. The competition would be deprived of the amazing opportunity of having Palace participate.
18. Common sense must prevail at UEFA and they have to sort this out.
19. A big blow for Palace, English football and the Europa League if Palace are kicked out.
20. He met a Palace fan whose 84 year old Dad wants to go to 'one European away game'......'that's all he wants to do in life'.
21. If the ruling goes against Palace, they WON'T TAKE IT LYING DOWN. The hope is that English Football backs them. They've GOT TO BE IN the Europa League.
My response is f*** OFF PALACE twenty one times over.

Ben Jacobs just seems to be relaying what Sky said earlier - and is another football journalist who is full of BS.

It is no surprise Palace missed UEFA's deadline. From Companies House today:

Eagle Football Holdings Ltd, Eagle Football Holdings Bidco Ltd, Eagle Football Holdings Midco Ltd: 3 companies, John Charles Textor director of all three.

Each company formed on consecutive days 27-29 September 2022. For all 3 - No accounts EVER filed, ACCOUNTS OVERDUE (was 30th June 2024 so they're currently almost 1 year late).

For all 3: Strike-off action started by Companies House, only discontinued on 17 May 2025 after all 3 companies filed their Annual Confirmation Statement on 28 May 2025, these almost 8 months late.

He will get fined for all of the above, but clearly compliance deadlines mean nothing to the man.
The PSC still shows he owns over 75% so nothing has been filed to reduce this at all so far

I don't get this Textor reducing his shares so it's all okay now. UEFA Article 5 says:

It isn't 'Textor' that actually owns either Palace or Lyon.

Eagle Football own 43% of Palace
Eagle Football own Lyon
Eagle Football are presumably a 'legal entity'

And therefore it is 'Eagle Football' that has control or influence over more than one club. Textor may have the controlling share in Eagle Football, but it's a legal entity in itself surely?

Palace have clearly briefed a number of reporters that they are in the clear. UEFA has said nothing.

Interesting.

It does look like Textor may have done enough to satisfy the rule. The deadline however is not worth the paper it is written on. UEFA appear to have bent their rules to allow Palace to find a solution.

Who knows what the next UEFA rule will be to be rendered meaningless by a club's refusal to abide by it.

Much the like "The Code" in Pirates of the Caribbean the UEFA rulebook seems to be a set of guidelines rather a robust means of governance.

But we know this. It's football, the tail wags the dog. No one thought for a moment that Uefa would uphold their rules and deadline. Just like no-one thinks that City will face any kind of significant sanction.

It's laughable really but these are the toothless tigers football is run by.
