I can’t see a precedence of fining a club in breach of multi-club ownership rules? Unless someone can correct me.

But removing them from the competition on the other hand seems to be standard practice.

I feel like I’m really missing something here, in terms of the level of certainty from some that Palace won’t be kicked out despite being bang to rights.

Id also be astounded that Kieron Macguire would be in the know at all when it comes to a UEFA hearing that has gone to an independent panel.

I suspect that Mr Maguire is (as normal) on the side of players and fans. I don't disagree with the notion that Palace fans and Palace players deserve Europa Cup entry. Unfortunately, their ownership has let them down on this big time (and potentially) many other occasions. That's their problem, it shouldn't be a consideration for UEFA or other English football clubs who want the rules adhered to.

Interesting - Kieran is VERY well-informed, but I would find a financial penalty a bizarre outcome (on the basis of what we know). UEFA's regulations are pretty clear: "If two or more clubs fail to meet the criteria aimed at ensuring the integrity of the competition, only one of them may be admitted to a UEFA club competition..."

It does NOT say that "we'll let both in, but one of them will be fined" !!

And I'm also not clear why - if there were to be a fine - that Lyon wouldn't also be fined....Textor could easily have put his Lyon shares in a blind trust, and the matter would have been resolved. There's nothing in UEFA's rules, as far as I can see, which set out a fining system for clubs which don't comply with the MCO rules.

They can't drop into the conference because of Wolves. Wolves don't own Brondby and won the league cup in 1970 so if palace get kicked out of the europa league the conference place goes to Wolves and Forest take Lyon's spot in Ligue 1.

I just can’t see them being thrown out of the competition.

what I think may be more likely is that city’s misdemeanours are revealed and punishment of disqualification from the CL happens. Then everyone just moves up a place in the European qualifications. In that way we may get EU football , but I am not holding my breath on any of this and personally think we will Not be European bound

I think Kieran is just making an educated guess. He said the same thing a week ago - that a fine would be appropriate. He won't have any 'insider' information on whether UEFA have any desire to kick out Palace or not.

I cannot see how a financial penalty would be appropriate. The rules relate to eligibility to play in the relevant competition. Fair enough if UEFA accept that Palace are indeed abiding by the rules and are eligible to compete, then let them play. If they are considered to be in breach the penalty has to be non-participation in the competition. On what grounds would a financial penalty be appropriate, I just cannot see it.

Unfortunately, I think that there is case, from UEFA's perspective, that a financial penalty is right. I think the point of the regulation is to make sure that there is no risk of a club having a perverse incentive in a game, because of links with another club in the same competition. So if UEFA believe that's not the case by the time the competition starts, what Palace have got wrong is not squaring this by the 1 March deadline, which is basically an administrative issiue - so why not fine them?

Crystal Palace are working closely and collaboratively with UEFA to end the uncertainty about their place in next season’s Europa League. Palace are in constant communication with UEFA in order to satisfy them that US businessman John Textor does not have decisive influence over the running of the club. Textor owns shares in Palace and Lyon, who have also qualified for the Europa League, through Eagle Football Holdings. UEFA are believed to be sympathetic to Palace's plight and are working with them to find a solution to the problem. UEFA recognise the benefit of having Palace in the Europa League next season after they qualified by winning the FA Cup - the first major trophy in their history - last month. UEFA want domestic leagues and cups to be competitive and to keep the romance alive of a team like Palace winning the FA Cup and going on to play European football for the first time in their history. It is about how much an individual owns of a club. So I'd say these changes put him well in the clear.
