What ? they have real ale there ? seriously ? not just the usual stadium coloured water ?

Thanks for all the input, folks - really do appreciate it.

We're staying in Hove on Friday night; planning just a couple of beers then a curry - any suggestions for either of those ? no real problem them being in Brighton as plan a walk into Brighton to get rid of the motorway legs.

Oh, and have never, ever, left a game early....... not even the black day in 1987 when we had the 1-10 loss at Maine Road ! :)

Harvey's, Dark Star, plus some ale local to Huddersfield - don't know which one yet. Admittedly, it's bright beer, but it's decent stuff. We're told around 4,500 pints of Harvey's are sold every home game.

A curry in Hove... there are one or two good ones in Church Road (the main road through Hove, parallel to the seafront) - others can recommend them better. Brighton is not that greatly served for curry houses, but fish, tapas, Mediterranean are there in abundance (my favourite is Casa Don Carlos, a tapas house situated in the Lanes. Avoid the 'chain' restaurants for the best options.

There is a great curry house in Church Road near Topolinos Italian restaurant, called Ashoka. I can recommend it.

Hi Guys

Will be down for the game on Saturday - coming Friday and staying over - but want to make a swift retreat back up north after the game for a 10.30 drink in Leeds.

I've been checking the car parking options and I seem to be favouring Stanmer Park - I saw a thread on here that there have been some problems there; please advise what the current situ is - or if there are any better options.

As to the game - it depends which Huddersfield turns up; Robins seems to have finally found a good formation for us - we won the first 3 of the last 5 games then lost the last 2 - we should have had those won by half-time if we'd had anybody who could convert chances. Vaughan should be back which will be a big plus, but Lynch is suspended and that will be a big minus. Realistically, I think you may win 3-1.

And finally - completely off-topic - did anyone go to The Prince Albert last week to see Lake Street Dive ? I promoted their gig at the HiFi in Leeds and I'm just wondering what the reaction was to them down there. They went down real well in Leeds, but the numbers were a little lower than hoped.

Thanks.

If you go to the revenge night club/bar they have loads of free parking around the back!

All this absolute avalanche of mutually contradictory advice from NSC's finest results from the OP's original decision to get down here by car.

A good alternative to all of that (at least for any still uncommitted away fans) is to Go. By. Train.

Yep. As a Wanderers' fan, I would certainly recommend travelling down by train. Both times, I was back in God's country before 10pm (via Lewes & I never leave early ) , so 10-30pm in Leeds would be easy....& you could drink all the real ale that you want.

I can confirm this. I had to return straight back up to Manchester after our home game v Millwall. The ref didn't blow the final whistle until 4-59 due to some epic time-wasting, but I was still back in Manchester by 9-30.

So train all the way is best if you want to get a good sample of Harvey's.

Yep, but even with the old git's railcard, the train fares were extortionate.....and with 2 of you, that's extortionate in stereo..... (and with a name like Bolton Va Va, you a Norman Soultrouser ?)

You are saying how good it is as a layman I am saying how poor it is with some considerable knowledge of good and bad beer, just an opinion.

Wrong.

You don't like the taste of Harvey's - Christ alone knows you've bored us with that line for yonks. But that's different from saying it's a 'bad beer' which clearly it isn't. It's you that stands alone in calling it a 'bad beer'.

Totally agree with you TLO.

Like yourself, I wouldn't call it a bad beer either, I'd go further and call it utter shite.

I dont like Harveys and wouldnt buy it out of choice but if it was the only ale I would buy it rather than Fosters and add a small drop of lemonade or tonic water to it but that served at The Amex is always very flat and lifeless and I am surprised that Miles Jenner hasnt been down to the Amex or sent somebody down to observe the selling of it and advise them accordingly. It is earning Harveys money in the quantity that is sold but it is not doing their name or reputation any good.

The tricks are buying train tickets as early as possible & sometimes splitting the journey's tickets, & you can usually dramatically reduce the cost...( Yep, a soulie. One mate was doorman at the Va Va & another provided some of the records played there...it's as close to fame as i'm ever likely to get !!)
