Have we got North Korea all wrong?

By the way anything Mustafa Kemal posts is absolute nonsense on this subject, we covered this in another post recently and he displayed a clear lack of knowledge and made genuinely ignorant and offensive statements regarding this issue. As illustrated by the above suggestion that North Korean camps do not differ from those in other nations. A clear lack of understanding does not suffice to highlight his ineptitudes.

I recommend a book on this subject called "Nothing To Envy" by Barbara Demick.

A Northern Outpost
The country is extremely poor and decades of US sanctions have only made it poorer. Compared to nations with similar wealth, the levels of hunger are not as bad as we are lead to believe, and its achievements in education, technology and culture are admirable. All things considered, it's doing rather well considering how poor it is. I would imagine if it wasn't the major trade route between the South and China it would be treated with more respect.

Oh dear god.

Achievements in culture? Personality of a cult is seriously not admirable. I would honestly love to know your sources in regards to education. When their people know nothing of the outside world but propaganda, how do you gauge their education system in relation to the rest of the world. I.e. understanding of language, mathematics, science etc.

Their science can not be 'admirable', more adorable that they try to intimidate with their pathetic missiles.

In regards to its poverty, how do you gauge this and once again where the f*** are your sources. You honestly cannot make such huge claims without sourcing your argument. Why North Korea Could Feed Itself | 38 North: Informed Analysis of North Korea Really doesn't bode well for the North Koreans, especially when more than 50% of their land is in-cultivable.

The sanctions are in relation to their constant warmongering, and chest pumping. Yes, the U.S and the surrounding nations do the same. But North Korea is hell-bent IDEOLOGICALLY, on destroying South Korea and reunifying it under the Dynastic regime, or dictatorship.

No freedom of thought, speech, expression.
No freedom of migration
No economic freedom or choice
Brainwashing, personality of a cult.
Military first policy

Sounds wonderful, and absolutely admirable indeed. I wish we could be like that.

Hang on, the prisons can't be all that bad if you can spawn a couple of generations in the slammer ?

No they don't. They are generally supportive of North Korea, and if you decide to flee the country to China you will be sent back. China are the only people who realise that the North Koreans aren't all that bad. Which they aren't. The only evidence that we have that atrocities are committed there is due to what we are told by our governments, who obviously don't want them to work with nuclear technology as they are scared. People so called 'leaving' and spreading stuff about Korea could be stooges, we don't know. All adds to the propaganda element.

Propoganda. Truth is, we will never really know what life is like in this country until it opens its doors. It could be a wonderful place to live, but right now we are relying on accounts from people who may have been there in the past and of course what the governments of the world are telling us.

Overlooking their huge displays of military in a country that is very poor in the population.
Now nuclear and long range missiles for their poor to feel comforted.
Think about it.

We only know they are poor because our governments have told us they are poor.

I mean,

nobody knows what goes on in there. Dennis Rodman just came out and said that the leader is a cool dude to hang with. So, do we have NK all wrong? Are the governments of the world spreading lies simply because they did not agree to peace with us?

Your right. I think we have got it wrong about North Korea to be honest. Of course we can't know, but a couple of un-biased documentaries iv watched show North Koreans as very happy people. Why we think a few videos exposing poverty shows that the regime is wrong I do not know. If no one knew anything about England, and stories were told of rare police brutality, rare extreme poverty and the rare racism that goes on in some parts of this country, what would people think about this state? Yet we are actually lucky to live in the society we live in when we compare it to third world ones. Well protected, free health care, free education, ethnic diversity, the list could go on. We shouldn't believe the American lies. I may be badly mistaken, North Korea could be the worst place on this earth to live. However, we do not have the ability to see so we can't really pass valid judgment on it. We may of course voice theories or opinions, but people talk about debatable things in the North Korea as if its fact. The country is highly ambiguous, and this is the only thing we know truly to be unequivocally correct.

All this realised after Dennis Rodman chummies with their dictator.
I look forward to getting more assessments from you - like how everyone misunderstood Ghadaffi, who was really a sweet guy and meant well.

And how do we know those that have left are actually from North Korea? Remember, the governments of the world are against North Korea, they could simply get a 'stooge' in. Won't take much. Just grab someone from South Korea.

If you knew ANYTHING about the subject you'd know the racism that North Koreans in South Korea face. They are very easily spotted by the fact that they are often much shorter (due to years of famine) and speak in a grumbled dialect - quite different to South Korean speech. They are often treated as outsiders and its not unknown for them to be shunned by South Korean family members due to the stigma attached.

Many North Koreans have struggled so badly with 'reintegration' that they spend many months in specialist hospitals.

You really do know f*** all about this subject so I suggest you stop posting your offensive bullshit.

Noted. Two more wind-up merchants added to the ignore list.

So anyone who flees NK looking for some kind of way out of there i.e refugee status just gets thrown back to the wolves.

If that is true, that's just more proof both NK and China are totalitarian states.

It's important to respect that it is a developing nation.

North Korea just wants to be self-sufficient, and left alone - with its Korean values unaffected. It's all in their Juche ideology which I would recommend anyone to read more about for a better insight into their political mindset.

You can't develop much when you're spinning some rubbish Marxism–Leninism line of thought.

All you get out of that is massive spending on military and a shit load of poor people who have little right to express themselves as individuals.

You create a drone society. Drones naturally will die for the state as that's how they are brainwashed.
