I thought that 'Liverpool music' interlude was well done; proves that despite (most) Eurovision UK involvement, we're actually rather good at this music lark. & the Icelandic bloke is just cool as flip. Oh, YNWA now... probably a bit overdone & sentimental, but suitably kitsch!
The cameras were on the Ukraine contingent as that was being sung. About as political as they were allowed to get.

Its more a case that countries like Sweden take it uber-seriously - their selection process takes weeks and is the most-watched thing in the country.

By contrast, we see it mainly as a joke for has-beens and never-weres. It occasionally throws up a gem (Sam Ryder) but not enough to make our big names interested.
In Estonia we have eesti laul ( translates as estonian song) which is the selection process. There are two semis, a final then the winner is chosen over the course of a week.

Mainly because none of them would touch it with a bargepole.
My list. Sure. I was kinda taking the piss.

But we have more music A-listers than the rest of Europe put together, and many times over.

There is surely one of them somewhere who’d give it a go. It’s. It’s not going to be a career-ruiner for anyone because Eurovision is just a bit mad.

How exactly did we end up with such a garbage singer for the first Eurovision we've hosted in 25 odd years? Do some bods at the BBC choose?

Song wasn't awful but the performance was dire.

So why do stars from other countries? Doesn't seem to harm their careers.

Now sure, they're not as big as the ones mentioned above, but then we could enter someone who is reasonably popular and famous, and who would suit Eurovision.
We have bunged well known artists into it in the past, Cliff Richards, Lulu, Sonia, Englebert Humperdink, never won with one though.

Looks like Sweden is going to clean up in the jury votes, but the public vote could change it hugely as don’t suspect it’s captured the public imagination like some others

Germany getting 0 votes is a travesty so far BTW

Sweden do a brilliant job of hosting, so I'll be pleased if they win for that reason alone.

How are Spain doing so well? That was utter bilge.
