Things will have to get very bad - much worse than they are now - to result in the sort of doomsday scenarios currently being pondered.
It is a simple political calculus. The key, as always, is in the polls and public sentiment.
If Mr Trump appears to have a reasonable chance to win in November, he will persevere, as he has all year.
If his poll numbers crash, and Republican politicians start worrying more about losing their own races in November than alienating their party's base, the Trump-coaster could careen off the rails at last.
Going against Mr Trump is still a risky bet. And when it comes to preserving their jobs, politicians are all about minimising risk.

He is back on attacking migrants with the 4,000 Somalian refugees in New England, where he was speaking Thursday, bearing the brunt of his attacks. Somalia, migrants, terrorism at home, etc. He made little issue of the $400m given to Iran by the Democrats and spoke from the heart he obviously hasn't got on his pet topic, immigration.

This is a news chat about Trump's recruitment video. From earlier in the year. First couple of minutes show the spliced together footage. His vendetta now seems to be against Somalians rather than Al-Shabaab.

There is the factor not many are taking into account that the very people that like Trump, this will entrench their view that Trump speaks for the ordinary man and the establishment are out to stop him. They honestly believe he is a hard working American who built his empire from scratch and is living the American dream rich and with a beautiful wife.

Yep and on a whole good honest Americans are falling for "I am the alternative to the establishment" line...

A third party is the only way to change American politics to keep in check the big two parties, it could split the votes and make them listen more to the public.

It may be too late to change. According to this article, (and it's quoting a Stanford professor of law so it's probably pretty accurate)Trump's name is already on the ballot in some states and, unless he's dumped in the next couple of weeks, will be on a lot more.

The article does explain that there is a mechanism for dumping him but it's extremely messy. If he's persuaded to stand down, that should be OK, but if he won't, Republicans would probably be in a worse mess.

What is interesting is that there's evidence (only from NH at the moment, so that could be an outlier state) that Trump's candidacy is affecting Republican senators' chances. If the NH experience is repeated in other states, however, the party could be stuck in a horror scenario - tied to a candidate who is damaging them, not only in the presidency, but in Congress too. The nightmare being that they can see what's happening, but not able to do anything about it
