Got home from the match to find my greenhouse has blown across the garden with all plants scattered in between :( (greenhouse has plastic type skin on it not a glass one!)

Is it too late to start some new plants off from seed or is it worth buying small plants?

It's probably too late for toms and definitely too late for chillies and peppers. Buy some plug plants. If you can get to one of the numerous bank holiday car boots there will be plenty available I would guess.

Crap luck though mate

Been a terrible year so far, none of my Birds Eye chillies survived into their second year and my packet of Jalopeno seed from Chilli Pepper Pete all failed to germinate. Desperately trying to germinate a second batch from Unwins but not hopeful. Will probably have to buy some plug plants too. Doh !

Seems to be a lot of NSC'ers that like to grow their own produce and have taken on allotment plots. I get loads of stick down the pub for enjoying this so I'm glad that others on here are like minded.

Here's my plot as it looks right now

How are we all doing on the Chillies ? I now have some jalopeno's but they are really slow growing at the moment, I fear I may have dodgy compost.

Not looking great tbh... Could be a bad year for chillies as this cool weather continues :-(

My Nosferatus are growing steadily but the Norfolk Naga are slow to get started. Needs some extended warmth, I guess.

Chillies doing fine. Now outside in the cold frame, but 3 I've potted up outside.

As ALWAYS - the fastest ones to grow and flower are the F1 Super Chilli from Sainsburys. Can't remember the brand.

I bought the same seeds from another supplier, which simply didn't germinate in the same quantity.

I'm more worried about the tomatoes. Simply not coming on. However, as much as the Christmas germination was a disaster. Three plant survived and big.

On the chilli front - definitely germinate as Christmas. They go into suspension during the colder weather / lack of light inside, unlike tomatoes which mostly whither and die.

I think the biggest problem was the cold, overcast spring which finished off all my overwintering Birds Eye Chillies. The weather has been so stop/start, today has been a microcosm for the year, had some lovely sunshine but cold when the showers hit and even had some hailstones this morning.

Is that a brick wall you have? I want one. I have 2 plots, with her, on the Weald site in Hove. Glad to write on a thread that won't disappear. This year the cherry and apple blossom is best for years. Strawberry flowers huge as well. I am hoping for a warm sunny June and Bingo bumper crop.

Not growing chillies or peppers this year and am restricting tomato growing to the greenhouse as lost all my outside plants to blight in 2012. Chelsea minis seem ok atm, pomodoro seeds have germinated (at last) and are coming on. Anyone got any decent tips on treating mildew on cucumbers, I had some trouble last year.
Runner beans have been out for 10 days but not enjoying the cold, same for the courgettes and squash. Strawberries (70 plants) a bit behind but my 30 or so raspberry canes seem to be enjoying the rain - bumper crop on the way hopefully.

Yes, it's a flintstone wall, unfortunately it's north facing and receives no direct sun throughout most of the year.

The weather this year has been ideal for fruit crops so it should be a bumper year if we start to get some sun and warmth to ripen crops up. Needs to happen soon though.

Looks like you have put some serious effort into that. Looks good. I am also struggling with chillies this year, but looks like happy days for the garlic I put in Nov/Dec 2012. I have a greenhouse and am trying to grow all my own ingredients for a curry. Have cumin, corriander, curryleaf, garlic and naga all coming through.

The reason your mates take the piss is because thet can't do it. Some people just do not have green fingers. It is something you are born with.

This recent warm weather has got my chillis moving really well. Moved them to the top shelf in the greenhouse and kept the windows shut but door open and they're now ready to go into their 2 litre final pots. Some of my peppers have flowers on !!!!!

The ones I grew from seed don't seem to want to kick on but I got a couple of Apache plants in and they are beginning to flower.
