Anyone here have much knowledge of Jalapeno Peppers ? I have a fair few at the 6" tall stage and I was wondering if I should pinch them out in the same way as the Bird's Eye Chillies ? I'm still struggling with my Bird's Eyes this year, they just don't want to seem get going, ideas ?

The most curious thing..
I've got problems getting anything to germinate this year - too cold and soil too dry on top.

Having planted two packets of seeds from chilli pepper pete's and seen nothing happen for two dark months earlier in the year I sliced a jalapeno in half and lobbed the seeds in the pot. SOMETHING's come up, two sturdy plants with giant healthy leaves. Monster finally!

Keep trying with the chillies, they will overwinter with a little luck. I have a Sweet Pepper and a Goat's Horn chillie that both survived and are in flower and setting fruit now. Even if they don't get to flower this year you will get a head start next year, especially if you have a warmish conservatory.

I splashed out on Jalapeno seed from Chilli Pepper Pete's with the same result, I won't go there again.

Stopped off at Lansdowne Nurseries today for some eggs and found out their Chilli plants are being brought out for sale this weekend. Got given a copy of the list of varieties and their hotness, will post the list in the next few days. Looks like about 35 varieties again this year.

Feeling quite pleased. I have fruit on my jalepeno and hungarian hot wax chillies and an antohi romanian sweet pepper, all of qwhich were grown form seed. Will have some Red Cherry and golden bell soon as well judging by the healthy flowers in bot varieties. Only disappointment is a lemon chilli form last year which grew strong and produced lots of flowers but no fruit.

Nothing on my chillies at all. The rest of the plot is doing fantastically well though so happy enough.
already harvested beetroot, spuds, onions, garlic, radish, lettuce, kohl rabi, broad beans and peas.
Visited the Stanford Community Garden this week which was looking in fine fettle. Keep up the good work Al and keep us posted.

If your chilli does not set fruit sometimes it can be down to Dry Set. Have you tried mist spraying the flowers daily ? That usually solves it. Other than that, was the original plant a F1 hybrid ? If so, the seeds will not breed true.

If you're having trouble getting your chillis to germinate, try using some bottom heat either with a heated propagator or one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REPTILE-H..._Reptiles_Spiders_Insects&hash=item2ec4995a4f I have 2 x 46" and one 18" heat mats and they're the business. I only sow them in shallow dishes too....those plastic takeaway tubs with a few holes in the bottom mare ideal.

Just starting to get some flowers on my chillis and sweet peppers

Tomatoes doing well too. This is Shirley

Balconi yellow

Cucumbers flowering well

Tomatoe Ilde.....absolutely loaded with flowers

My 10 x 8 greenhouse is a bit small this year. Things are growing like mad. I do tend to close the greenhouse up, damp down then let the heat build up and eveything loves it....it's getting up to 40 degrees c in there some days

My chillies are ok but a bit behind, as are most people's.
Harvested the first of my spuds yesterday and my beetroot is having a brilliant year.

Thanks for the top about going there. Stopped by earlier on this month and got a couple of plants. From seed I have only been successful with two chillies this year so topped up the plant head count!
Courgettes doing fantastic this year, tomatoes and cucumber not so well as previous years.
