If someone wanted to teach my child with their face covered I would request they change class. Facial expression is part and parcel of our society. How do you teach tongue in cheek?

Should they be banned? - No.
I see people walking down the street wearing piss stained clothes, looking like they have just come out of the gutter. I do however believe that they should be removed in banks, it can be quite intimidating. However, these people come from parts of the world where this is normal. Just the same as we think nothing of gay/ homosexual people walking around proud of thier identity. There are alot of countries out there, where the punishments for the aforementioned is quite severe.
The problem in this country, is that people are reluctant to accept change. We live in a multicultural society, whether we like it or not. Times have changed, we are all human, and we have to respect other peoples decisions, religeons, beliefs.
As far as the Burkas are concerned, I personally am not a fan, but I would not want to see an outright ban, only in respect of banks, where everyone else has to remove head garments.

I dont know, the subject is SO sensitive, you could argue that they should be removed in shops etc.
But where would you draw the line?
The important issue here is national security. How do you check ID in shops/post offices etc? How do you know they are not even under age,commiting fraud etc?
I had a recent shunt in my car and the insurance company asked for a rough describtion of the person involved.How can i do that if they are wearing a veil etc?
It's not not case of why people want it banned but why do muslims feel the need to wear them at all when it's not wirtten in the Koran?

I agree with you. I think most people in Great Britain feel uncomfortable and intimidated by burka wearing women, just as immodestly dressed Western women can offend in middle-eastern and Muslim countries. We should show consideration when abroad, but have the right to ask the same of others here. I don't believe that because something is a religious practice it should automatically be allowed, but as has been pointed out, the wearing of the burka is a cultural, not religious, custom.

I think they should be banned. They are oppressive, there are security issues and they are sexist. Mind you, I'd have Britain become a secular state with religion of any hue marginalised if I could.

I think you will find that many of the women wearing burkhas in the UK were actually born here rather than being immigrants, most of those doing so that I have met in my area have had very local accents, not a hint of anything much else.
My main concern, which doesn't seem to have been considered so far, is that some women aren't wearing the burkha through choice but because of family pressure. Their doing so may be a mask for serious domestic abuse, there is no place for that in our society, regardless of any views about whether the burkha should be banned or not.
