Bristol City and Blackburn Rovers in for Lewis Dunk

Sky Sports understands that Brighton defender Lewis Dunk is a target for both Bristol City and Blackburn.

The 21-year-old defender came through the youth system at the Sussex club, and has made 44 league appearances for the Seagulls.

In September 2011 it was reported that Arsenal were keeping tabs on Dunk, and he played 36 league games last season.

However, he has struggled to gain a first-team place this season, making just seven appearances in the Championship. He was sent off after just eight minutes of Brighton's game against rivals Crystal Palace last month.

It now appears that Brighton may be prepared to listen to offers for Dunk, and Championship rivals Bristol City and Blackburn are thought to have shown interest in the signing.

Given that Dunk's current contract expires at the end of the season, it is thought that the player would not command a sizeable fee.

Dunk was called up to the England under-21 squad in November 2011.

Didn't realise his contract was up in the summer.
Get him on a new contract in the next couple of weeks or risk losing him for nothing to some foreign team.

Hardly a step in the right direction.

The fee we'd recieve would be minimal.

Keep him, (trial dependant) we could have a player worth £2m or £3m come the end of the season again. Real potential.

Hmmm strange one this. Wonder if contract talks have stalled? Can't see him going to Bristol City to be honest. Be surprised to let one of Poyets star young players, go for free, or nominal fee? I'd like to see him stick around for another 3 years or so

surley no one would take a risk on him until all his "off-field" issues have been resolved

it wouldnt have bothered me had we still had hall or cook.

but i dont want to lose dunk as well unless poyet has something up his sleeve. i want dunk to prove me wrong and show the form he had last season.

Whilst it would be sad to see one of our own go (and it wasnt so long ago that it was touted that people like Arsenal were looking at him APPARANTLY) if talks have stalled so be it.

I think we need a big imposing centre half anyway so Dunk would be further down the list behind AEA and Greer. Added to which short term anyway Paints, Calde and even Vincelot can play CB and Hammond thinking about it, hell even Bridders has had a go.

Hope he doesn't leave. I doubt he'd want to move up north, Bristol might be a little more appealing but all his friends are in Brighton, the only reason he'd move is to get away from Gus. Oh yeah, and when we sell him just watch him develop into a top class defender, will be an absolute joke if we let him go too after the exact same thing happened with Hall

maybe a loan with a free transfer at the end of the season but nobody will pay a fee before his court hearing surely and that isnt until 21st with no guarantee of being over before the deadline closes or, clearly, of the outcome.

I wouldnt let him go unless I was bringing in a replacement for Greer and maybe elAbd as well. At the moment he is our only experienced specialist back-up

Presumably if we sold him, it would be with another centre back in the bag. We wouldn't sell in the current climate, no chance. If this new leftie is happy enough and able enough to be centre back option number 4, then all we need is the signing to challenge Greer and El-Abd.

I like Lewis Dunk, but if we can't get his contract sorted, I'm not opposed to selling him on and getting in a centre back with more experience, with pace and aerial ability. If we've got a player like that who can come in now, then sell Dunk.

But ideally we'd keep Dunk on a new contract, loan him out to Bristol City for the rest of the season for experience, still sign a quality centre back to challenge Greer and El-Abd and then review the whole situation in the summer.

In the summer he'll be out of contract and we could potentially loose another of our promising young defenders, yep, sounds totally different. ???

Promising? He played like twice for us. Never even made the bench.
