Of course we would, but he'll be off to the likes of Arsenal (if Arsene Wenger has any sense). He should have the pick of half the Premier League.

Not quite sure why Newcastle are releasing him..? Back to his old ways?

I would love his quality on the pitch, but not his personality off it

He's a reformed character these days. Arsenal need a player who can tackle in the middle of the park. Would probebly go to a top 6 side in the prem. No chance of him coming here. He is on a free so wages will be massive

Under the sea
1. We have enough midfielders
2. He is a difficult character and we've already jettisoned moody Murray so don't need someone else in the same mould
3. He'd want BIG wages
4. He's a bit of a dick
5. Even if we DID want him, we've got NO chance

So all of a sudden he is mesmerisingly brilliant? When did this happen? When did people start thinking of Joey Barton as being good enough for a "top 10" team, let alone a footballing team like Arsenal! Has this site gone mad?! Bizarre.

They are releasing him because Mike Ashley is Fat Bastard who seems to want to destroy a great club. Thank god we have Tony Bloom

He was probably Newcastles best player last season, would walk into most prem teams

Detestable man.

Surely that's EXACTLY the sort've played we need - a take no prisioners style player - another Oatway if you will

tippy-tappy will take us far against some sides , actual hit and hurt will take us further against the rest

NOT that we'll get Barton mind.

But Oatway was a likeable man off the field and wasn't a nutter.
