Fair points although I for one am very happy that the government did the buy back thing. I feel far safer living in a society where guns are controlled. It is far to easy and efficient to kill with guns.

Thats all well and good mate, but that's something thats simply in your mind. It doesn't make it a real thing.

They didn't ban guns because it 'might happen one day" they banned guns because it did happen. the fact is that it hasn't happened since and most people have managed to adjust to the way of living and since i have lived in Australia you are only the second person I have ever heard complaining about it.

Have you ever thought that its because of the people you associate with that you only hear one opinion? To say people have adjusted to it really can't be taken as much because the people who pushed for it to happen the most were never affected by it in the first place.

I know a lot of people who are still pissed off by the Governments actions. This is probably because politically I converse with people who prefer a Libertarian view of the world rather than that of a Greens socialist view of it. Those people arent exactly a minority. Evidence of that is the Shooters Party in NSW having won and held seats in that State Parliament.

I'm surprised that the American people haven't got their act together over reform of U.S. gun laws.

These killing sprees are happening in streets, schools, churches, cinemas, shopping malls, car parks, i.e.ordinary spaces that everyone uses. Any one of them could get caught up in these incidents and they see them every few months on TV, year after year. I honestly believe if the roles were reversed and it was us with the guns that the British people would march and protest until the government of the day changed the rules.

Only the second person you've heard burying their guns in their backyard, or is that a first?

That is a first, although the other was my father in law who was angry because he didn't want to sell his gun for less that he thought it was worth (it was held toegther by string) and nor did he want to pay to get a licence for it after not having one before.

I think their laws are nuts too, but

1: The NRA is a very effective lobbying boddy
2: There are already 350 million guns out there in the US, and they don't decay, so a ban on gun sales wouldn't prevent the problem very much.

You seem to be making an awful lot of assumptions about who I associate with.

For what it is worth i spent the first 6 years of my time in Australia in a rural Victorian dairy farm area. Greeny socialists were very few and far between among the farming and hunting community.

Are any of your opinions not based on ignorant generalisations and massive inaccurate assumptions?
yes, most of them , ive obviously hit a nerve judging by your reply, my post was based on the fact that you really are the epitome of the wishy washy pommie poofter, who i should imagine is as popular as a fart in a space suit amongst your more mainstream aussie neighbours, and the fact that your father in law responded in such a cantakerous way to aussie govt gun control legislation.

Yes obviously, that is the obvious explanation. :).

Well if you have little interest in guns it would be fair to say that it wouldnt be something they would blurt out if they knew your position.

I had a friend who got dobbed into the Police by a soft cock when he mentioned he'd not turned in all his guns.
